25. I had a secret advantage

My mother was, in many ways, a conformist. She never worked. She was a classic 50’s housewife.

But she read and thought. My father and mother had wide ranging discussions about every topic imaginable.

She and my father were horribly flawed. But if you wanted a debate about almost anything my Mother would take you on.

Now that I look back I realized what was different about my house and every other house wherever we lived.

In my house, women were people. That’s the core difference. Many men (and women) in our country don’t view women as full people. This is from thousands of years of religious dogma. Christianity explicitly defines females as lesser than men.

Due to this and other noxious Catholic dogma I left the church at 13. Since the Protestant denominations were not any better there was no refuge to move to. So, I became a full apostate.

My daughters and wife helped complete a process that began long before.
