5. This American person will never forget

The impeachment of G.W. Bush might have served as a moral reckoning and a recommitment to fundamental values grounded in basic human rights and dignity. In the wake of Nixon's impeachment we saw substantial reforms and renewed commitment to ethics. Had the impeachment of G.W. and Cheney for war crimes taken place -- whatever the outcome -- I think it would have left in it's wake a reaffirmation of the rights and values so many have fought and died for. And, had there been such a national reaffirmation, it could have provided a protective shield against Trump and his base impulses and wanton disregard for our constitution and basic human rights.

We can never know the road not taken, but perhaps somewhere in the multiverse there is even an America that did not go down the war crimes path in the first place because it's Congress rightly judged and threw out the electors appointed pursuant to the incomplete, and therefore unlawful Florida election on 01/06/2001.
