Response to On the Road (Reply #50)

129. Al Jazeera was great, it was hard to find any bias in most its coverage during its early

years. But people began to notice the reporting becoming less neutral a few years ago and it turned out they were not just imagining things. The sad thing was that because of its excellent reputation, people were more likely to trust them and were puzzled about what they were seeing and hearing.

Several reporters in different countries resigned in protest over not being allowed to put their work on the air, which was not what they were accustomed to. In censoring them that way, a slant was put on the news something they had become famous for NOT doing.

The bias was very obvious during the Libya and Syria conflicts and reporters stated they had footage that was kept off the air, showing a side of the 'rebels' which placed in doubt the claim that they were a 'grassroots' organization. So as it turned out, people were right, things had changed.

But what really blew their reputation was when Wikileaks cables revealed that the man who is credited with Al Jazeera's huge success had met with US Intelligence/CIA in 2005 and agreed to remove certain images of the Iraq War from its website.

Al Jazeera Head Suddenly Resigns Amidst WikiLeaks Revelations[/b

.

Wadah Khanfa, Al Jazeera's managing director and the man widely considered responsible for putting Al Jazeera on the international map, resigned suddenly yesterday following revelations by WikiLeaks that he had met with U.S. intelligence and agreed to remove "disturbing" web content from the Al Jazeera site.

The cables reveal that Khanfa met with U.S. intelligence in 2005 to discuss what they felt was Al Jazeera's negative coverage of the war in Iraq.

One cable shows that Khanfa agreed to remove "two images depicting wounded children in a hospital and a woman with a badly wounded face" at an American officials request, but asked that his collaboration be kept a secret.

In his resignation letter yesterday he made no mention of the cables.

That was a shattering blow to their credibility and combined with their own journalists dissatisfaction and the viewers wondering why their coverage seemed to have changed they really have lost what made them one of the most trusted news agencies in the world.

Seems our CIA influences media all over the world and when they can't, they find ways to destroy them. See Wikileaks.
