16. It's better for support to come organically from the bottom up

Rather than feel like a top down directive. There's some resentment about all this among some voters, and letting the President shine on this day while others gather to lift up the new likely nominee is a good tack.

I have no doubt many conversations took place over the past week or so to various potential contenders, representatives, and party officials about what should happen when the President stepped aside.

Let it be that the party's making the decision with all these endorsements, and then they can come it and say, "The party seems to have chosen."

It just works more smoothly that way.
