The purpose of a market, controlled or free, is to facilitate the maximum velocity of energy and growth of a given society (with the stated purpose to improve the human condition, and the proven purpose to grow infinitely). In either case--excluding steady-state economies--both approaches to the economic system still want infinite growth in a finite world, which will always inevitably result in overshoot and an ecosystem breakdown.

People wanting one economic system to create their iPad instead of another are missing the entire point.
