(5,860 posts)I'm in Omaha. I've seen a few Trump flags/signs, but not many. A few Don Bacon signs mostly left over from his bruising primary with Frei. Some Tony Vargas signs. I have neighbors who attend a local megachurch that -- as you put it -- are going with "Its a Christian nation, vote for Trump." Most people aren't talking about it and from those who do, I get something along the line of "I don't like either of them." It's a long time until November, but my sense right now is that a lot of people are going to sit this one out.
RE: "You can scream SCOTUS, abortion, book bans, and about civil rights until you are blue in the face. They aren't buying any of it.
HOW DO WE FIX THAT????" My first response would be "Ask Lance Morgan." Mr. Morgan is a member of Winnebago Nation and an attorney by training, and he operates Ho Chunk and has basically worked an economic miracle for the Winnebago. From what I've read, he's a Dem but he's not super involved in politics. My second response would be to point to Secretary Deb Haaland and remind everyone that she is the highest ranking Native American in Federal Government, and point out that no one like her is going to be in a Trump administration. Remember that social issues are important, but in Presidential elections, people vote with their wallets. Unemployment is low and stable, and the economy is growing. But despite rising wages, people feel pinched both at the low level (buying milk, eggs, bread, and meat) and buying a home (because housing prices skyrocketed under low interest rates, and aren't coming down now that rates are perceived as high but are statistically normal).
