MAHER is *on* to us! Somebody tipped him off that we say get-off-my-lawn about him! [View all]

What I like to do is to gauge which guests he kisses up to, which he wants to impress, which he feels threatened by, which he doesn't care about.

For somebody who claims to have Libertarian sex (is that "lots"? ) he was cornered by Sandra BERNHARD about whether he actually has a sex partner at all, how long his supposed relationships last, to which he hemmed/hawed around, maybe about a Black woman, but funny how the only name in the past has been COULTERgeist. As for kissing up, in the first year or two he would foist the little table loaded with booze bottles and weed smoking things on the guests and be shocked - "Really?!" - if anybody didn't partake. To the ones with big names he kissed up to he would end up giddily telling them he and they need to go to Vegas for a weekend.

BERNHARD was down to earth, party days long over, didn't partake. Leslie JONES was prepared to interact with him as a peer, but he was noticeably uncomfortable with her and cold shouldered her. While GUTFELD's wingnuttiness might be too far even for MAHER who claims he wants rapprochement with everybody, he acted threatened. Margaret CHO was way in mature management with him, him flaunting his mainstream/White upbringing as contrasted to her parents operating a sex shop and her more sexually inclusive life experiences - him so curious about them as if from another galaxy, while she tolerantly answering without judging his mockery. With Gay guests he has done the interrogation thing, giggling with his repeated declarations that he is just hung up about the-anal-thing. Bill BURR slapped him down about acting like he's a retired "general" giving advice to world figures.

Shouldn't have been surprised, but was, by who handled him with total aplomb - Kris JENNER, who didn't partake, who let him go through his whole shtick without biting, let the invitation to Vegas go unacknowledged. Shouldn't have been surprised since she has a lifetime of experience in dealing with nutcase people. Leslie was puzzled at his snooting, CHO just let him be.

*** So, with ROMANO, his total opposite in marriage/family/decent, MAHER was enviously competitive - on the surface granting peer status in success and span of careers, but asserting how *his* style and work are more daring and edgy. Natch, ROMANO was a non-partaker, which always makes MAHER think he's Kewler-than-thou. The envy is about ROMANO's long running success with a network show. When ROMANO modestly mentioned a Peabody award, MAHER jumped with, "What *IS* that, Peabody?!" It was a real competition about both of them having been featured at the White House Correspondence dinner. On and on.

*** But here's the DU gist: MAHER brought up the YOUNG people, repeating 4 or 5 times how some of THEM criticize him for being an OLD Get-off-my-lawn type. THIS is something we say here about him, and *I'm* 77 years old. I'm sure he didn't monitor us himself but was clued in about. He claimed a couple of times that he does NOT dislike Teh YOUNGS, but wants them to address his content that they dismiss him about with the Lawn thing. He tends to repeat himself. HAH!
