I'd be willing to bet that the manager just didn't want to deal with hundreds of coupons on a regular basis. Have you ever seen the extreme couponer show? There can be hundreds of items and hundreds of coupons, registers locking up from overload, and calls to to district headquarters. The process can take hours.
It doesn't justify the manger's actions and it was especially stupid of her considering there was a camera rolling, but I can see how if you catch the wrong person on the wrong day something like that could happen.

Weird. I almost exclusively use cash, especially dollar coins. It's just easier.

What's really sad is that you save more by getting store brands than using coupons.
