Although Clinton has been able to rise above it historically, they did succeed to an extent by tying his hands and monopolizing public attention for two years...Ultimately, the smelly fallout helped contribute to the defeat of Gore.
Hopefully the public (and media) won't fall for it again...But we're not always a very intelligent country and it could still become a giant needless pain in the ass.
