I posted this on my FB account. These are my words and feeling as clumsy as they may be.
This is a day late:
I have heard a lot of talk about seceding from the United States lately. Ironically, much of it comes from the same people who thanked me for my service this past Veterans Day. I would like to make some things clear. I am not a huge fan of what our military has to do at the behest of our government, but I did serve. I served not for the powers that be nor for what could be gained. I served because of the concept of the United States, the concept that when all we have and all we are have been united we can pull through any adversity. This concept is what empowers not me, not you, but us.
I would like the figurative you out there to consider something. What will happen when you are no longer a part of us? There are all manner of things that will have to be put into place once you become sovereign nations. Who will help you when you need it? How will you be affected? Your businesses? Your infrastructure? There is a reason we can live the way we do and help as often as we do. It's because we are The United States of America. Even if you leave we will still be The United States of America, and if you fail we will take you back, and we will still be The United States of America.
Now, I'd like you to consider how the people who served this nation to preserve the concept and it's people must feel when you say you no longer wish to be a part of it just because you aren't getting what you want. When you tell me "thanks for your service," and then talk of secession, you can take your "thanks" and stick it up your ass. To me you are a hypocrite and a borderline traitor. You have no clue what this nation stands for.
