Remember when Joe Biden first said, "Battle for the Soul of the Nation"? [View all]

When I first heard it, I felt a wave of affirmation wash over me. At the time, not many people in my world seemed to be as worried as I was. I found his statement comforting because someone who mattered recognized what I had been seeing and feeling since TFG was elected. I had even gone so far as to make a plan to leave the country and nagged my grown children to get passports. My children didn't come out and say I was crazy, but it took a very long time for them to recognize the serious situation we were in in this country. It really wasn't until after Jan. 6th that many people began to really fear what had and is still going on.

Now, I'm more afraid than ever, but also more hopeful because it seems that we are in the midst of fighting the last long battle in the, "Battle for the Soul of the Nation". Right now it doesn't look good for our country: SCOTUS is on a path to make the special version of "Handmaids Tale" of the conservative States a reality; the States are passing horrific voting suppression laws; the news media is making 5% inflation into something like 15%. The Repulican minority doesn't want to pass anything that benefits anyone but corporations and the wealthy (even the corporations and some billionaires are getting sick of them). We have a Debt. ceiling date looming that the GOP want's to play "chicken" with, and a huge social safety net bill that could be scuttled or gutted by two members of the Democratic party.

That said, I believe we will keep our Democracy because there are more good people than bad people (and there are a lot of bad people), because Joe Biden recognized what was going on and called it out early, which makes me confident he also decided to do whatever was necessary to save the country he loves and has served his whole life. But it's ugly out there right now and it's easy to lose heart. Please don't. We all need to do our part, no matter how small. Vote. Donate. Volunteer. Pray (if you do and even if you don't). And have HOPE.
