In reply to the discussion: Walmart is tempting me to steal from them [View all]orleans
(34,051 posts)61. good. glad to hear you don't really intend to steal
you can order from target and they will ship a lot of grocery items that don't need to be refrigerated (ketchup, soup, kleenex, shampoo, toothpaste etc)
so when you have to go to walmart for bread or frozen items or veggies you won't spend as much time there shopping and scanning
the less money you spend at walmart the better

Those self-checkouts are heavily monitored. They are hoping to shake-down fraudsters.

I am sure all stores have calculated a specific amount of shrink into self-checkout.

Wal*Mart's the exception. They've turned the self-checkout into a profit center.

Don't go to Europe. You have to bring your own bags, pay a deposit for a cart, and bag your items.

The few times I've been in the local Walmart, the employees have been surprisingly friendly

I see Walmart employees picking out meat, fruit and vegetables for people to pickup.

Self checkout works even for many items if there are 2 of you. When we shop we take 2 carts.

I have run into the situation occasionally at walmart where there is not barcode on an item.

A store can pick their own check out polices..don't see why what they pick is license to steal.

Don't do it. They have sensors for anything that is not scanned and goes out the store.

I assume you go to Wal-mart for lower prices. Why be upset at their strategies for lowering prices?

I like self-checkout. No cashier's hands on my stuff, and it's several times faster.
