(102,828 posts)If you think that walking distance and regularity may well be a far more accurate assessment, you could do a study to investigate that, but the point is there are already studies showing that "self-reported walking pace has been shown to be a stronger predictor of cardiovascular mortality than other measures of physical activity or function".
Elite athletes are a tiny proportion of the population, and would not affect such a study.
