2. What kind of weird things?

Not much to go on, really.

Like what kind of phone? What model? What are the symptoms.

But, yes, they want you to buy a new phone every two or three years. What usually happens is that the batteries on iPhones stop holding a charge very well. On Android phones, the latest OS update can't be installed. That sort of thing.
