. . . . . a lot of them are Reagan Democrats, particularly the older ones. Those in their fifties and sixties may or may not be, but they labor under the phenomenon of growing more conservative as they generally age.
It is hard to say, with any real certainty why they tend to vote more conservative - and there are huge numbers who do not - but they do, at a higher rate than the population in general.
Your questions is a broad brush one and the only possible answers are also broad brush.
