(3,888 posts)i'm sorry that your daughter had to experience this, anywhere but especially in school.
she was right to leave the class and go to the counselor. i hope the principal will be supportive of your daughter and insists that all students (and people) in the building treat each other with respect.
i am surprised that an "old man" in his thirties (not old to me) would be such an ass.
why would a man who would say such bigoted things to students want to teach? he lacks the necessary nurturing skills.
good luck in the morning. you should consider what you think would be an appropriate course to pursue.
the teacher should, of course apologize to your daughter in front of the whole class but i doubt the principal will require that. i'm sure he will be expected to apologize in private.
if there is another teacher who is teaching the same course you might have your daughter's schedule changed. but that may not be the best course. i don't know the situation and you probably need your daughters input. will her life at school be worse if it seems the teacher drove her away? how large is the student body? there are other questions that you should think about before deciding what you might suggest.
again, good luck to you and your family.
