(10,621 posts)17. Many of them see the flag as a symbol of power.
They love the idea that the United States is a superpower - able to impose its will on others through sheer military and economic might. As individuals, they may feel week and helpless, like a small twig. But bundled into the collective, they are part of something immensely more powerful, and they find this very comforting.
