I saw a dumb meme on my Facebook feed that said "Who here believes that God has protected you and your loved ones through these months of pandemic? Thank you, Lord! I believe!" I didn't bother to comment; there's never any point in arguing with that kind of nonsense - but the first thing that came to mind was the question, "why didn't God protect all those people who got sick or died and their loved ones?" The idea that God (assuming he/she/it exists at all) randomly "protects" some people and not others is offensive and even theologically absurd. To the anti-maskers: God hasn't got you, but maybe covid-19 does.
