The contract clearly stated that it would be paid out in addition to and regardless of other payouts.

Don Carty (the former CEO) of AMR was a selfish greedy bastard as were/are all the subsequent CEO's.

AMR's response to anything is "if you don't like it, grieve it".

That, my friends is why there are unions.
