Say what you will about religion and your own beliefs or non belief. But, since this thread is about religion, I am a member of a church (not evangelical fundies). I agree with the point the OP makes. Here is my recent experience.
Yesterday, I received an email from the pastor sent to all members, outlining all cancellations and changes due to covid. There are many seniors in the congregation. He went on to reassure people who decide, for their safety, not to attend the weekly service, even with changes, that they are still part of the group. They should call the church if they need anything to help get through the health crisis. That was followed by a request to "members with resources" to contact the church about their availability to respond to calls for help. The email ended with, "You are not alone."
