- rightly or wrongly, elected Republicans believed voters would reject obvious corruption. And probably some, even maybe most, would have. But to this day there are people who will tell you Nixon was railroaded.
- also, Nixon retained the ability to reasonably weigh outcomes and choose the one that was the lease dangerous in the long run. Orange Judas wouldn't understand the "long run" in any way. He light think it referred to a ski slope. Or to a golf hole.
