He said some pretty horrific things last night. If anyone else would have said them we'd all be screaming "dogwhistle" and "liar." However, since he's elderly, and a popular Hollywood figure, we're trying to find excuses.

His people took the risk, and it would appear for the most part they were right. It worked. He's popular enough for his fans to get past this.
