That's the correct path to get the public onboard. And regardless of how you feel about the political viability of impeachment, only open hearings can make impeachment possible. Open hearings will (even if the impeachment drive fails) make it clear to voters what's at stake in 2020. There is no down side to hearings.

Convictions will occur in other venues, like New York, even if senate Repubs do not remove him.
