(17,301 posts)Doomsayers usually start the conversation and when they get shrill and loud enough the majority pays attention. I doubt that without doomsayers as many people would be convinced of Global Climate Change as currently exist. Knowing what is the worse that can happen usually is how you start to address a problem. So doomsayers provide the worst case scenario for discussion.
What is more of a problem is all the deniers and purposefully ignorant out there. There are far, far more of them than there are of doomsayers. Yes, doomsayers are annoying but without them many more people would be purposefully ignorant about Global Climate Change. So, for now, I say we still need the doomsayers to get people to pay attention. At least until all the major powers have signed onto the Kyoto Protocol.
