When Trump threatened the lives of the Congressional delegation to Afghanistan, he indicated his willingness to escalate the crisis and shatter the peace - and the national security interest demanded this kind of pause - if only to give more time to investigate and prepare (and give the Senate factions time to orient towards a conviction).
