(447 posts)31. I do understand your point. I know I possess some innate
racism, and I don't think it will ever go away. It is very subtle and hopefully it is not noticeable. When a black person waits on me at my favorite QT store, I try to casually touch hands when he gives me my change, or if I arrive at the counter about the same time as a black customer, I step back a little and let him go first and say "Oh, go ahead. You were first." I'm a friendly person by nature, (much to my children's dismay) and frequently strike up conversations in stores, etc.. If it's a black person, I worry they may think I'm being condescending, and maybe I am. I will struggle with these feelings forever, I do believe.
