In reply to the discussion: The Pennsylvania Photo ID application... How long would it take YOU to get all your papers ready? [View all]Rhythm
(5,435 posts)40. Other document(s) you might need...
If you're married -- and changed your last name -- you will need a state-issued copy of your marriage license, because they'll balk at the difference between the last name on the birth certificate and the one you want on your ID.
If you are divorced -- and going back to your pre-married name -- you will likely need a copy of your finalized divorce decree.

Also, state-embossed birth certificates are a pain in the rear to get if your state-issued ID card is expired. They flatly won't issue it, because the rule is that you have to have a VALID (i.e. non-expired) ID to get a copy of that document in the post-9/11 world.

I understand that the "Voting Only" ID does not require a birth cert. Just SSN and a piece of mail

How can they make it up as they go along like this? Wouldn't every change require a new law?

Read the law. The fee will be waived for those without a BC. The DoT Center will send for your BC.
