18. My dad had Alzheimer's too.

He, like your father hadnt spoken in months. I was visiting him at the memory care home where he was living. Id stopped to being him ice cream which was his favorite treat. He didnt want to eat it. We sat in silence for a long time holding hands. All of a sudden he said Honey, Im going to go. It took me a minute or so to grasp what he had said to me...not only that hed actually spoke but what hed meant. At first I was thinking dad, they lock this place...where are you going to go? But then I got it. He was telling me goodbye. I put my head in his lap and cried. I told him how much I would miss him and that I loved him so. He said Ill miss you too. He never said another word and was gone 48 hours later.
