13. It may backfire. Repub senate candidate Chris McDaniel

generated some unpleasant blowback recently by calling Robert E. Lee a man of "unimpeachable integrity." Apparently that was his notion of what lead Lee to turn down Lincoln's request to lead the union armies in favor of fighting to protect his slaveowner class and slavery.

In any case, he fought back against criticism by offering his followers in Mississippi a racist poll, inviting them to say whether Lee was a hero or a villain. Response was 91% villain. Imagine his surprise.

Btw, just looked, and the appointed female Republican "incumbent" is holding first in MS's special election for U.S. senator, black Mike Espy is 2nd (!), and McDaniel behind them in third. Morning Joe featured McDaniel on his show in MS this morning.
