(13,460 posts)Raised by pro-union democratic parents always telling me that Rs were for the rich and Ds were for the poor. (One of my best memories ever before losing my Dad was watching Obama win his first time, my parents loved him.). Prior to Baptists becoming a subsidiary of the R party Kentucky wasn't so bad. People could think more for themselves, of course there always idiots, but most kids I grew up with had parents who worked their butts off to give their kids a better chance than they had. My parents didn't go to college (but both went to vocational school), but they made sure my sister and I did.
My grandmother used to tell me about walking up and down the road with her sisters beating on trash cans yelling "Roosevelt Roosevelt he's our man, throw old Hoover in the garbage can". She never got past 6th grade but was such a wise woman!
I could go on, but the most prevalent Christian Denominations in this country have been in a sick, obsessive relationship with the R's for decades now and we see the result.
