This quite probably wouldn't even work for a significant minority of people, but I have shunned* family members for less stress-inducing behavior than that.

I hope you can come to an acceptable equilibrium. I don't think there is any "win" available, but what do I know?

*I believe we can learn a lot from the Amish.
