I live in a resort neighborhood and many of my "Neighbors" own several residences scattered over the US. When you inquire about where they actually live, its gets very twilight zone like. Most are claiming Florida or New Hampshire as they have no or little income tax there and these guys all have big un-earned income and don't care about property taxes. They make big gyrations to get to Florida for enough of their time so the other states cannot claim they owe taxes to them. New Yorker Magazine had an interesting article about a guy going to court to prove he wasn't in New York City more than 150 days. New York City has a big city earnings tax and the guy was fighting to save 20 million in taxes. The guy hired a secretary to do nothing but keep track of where he spent each hour so he wouldn't go over the limit.

Ah, the rich. Just like you and me but with a lot more money.
