I used to think that the internet would open up a new age of self-education. That sure there are fake news stories, but that eventually most would compare all the many sources saying basically the same thing, based on scientific facts, compared to the few CT raving sites based on no facts, and they'd come around.
What I dont think anyone predicted was how Google, FB and other social media runs on algorithms on your history and then feeds you stories that fit your narrow framework. Great in some ways, I prefer for instance getting news without a conservative or Republican slanted position, without having to wade through them. But what it means is the other side is being fed what they want to see, which is mostly all fake news and crazy CT about Democrats. Its a perfect tool for, say, a hostile foreign government to take advantage of to sow division.

So yes, more and more people are getting the ability for access to greater information. The problem is they are steered only towards their own narrow predetermined positions. So that freedom of information is useless.
