Principal, staffers of Broward high school removed over transgender student athlete

The fascists are here in this country, in Florida:

Broward County Public Schools announced Monday that the school district removed the principal of Monarch High School and four other staff members due to “allegations of improper student participation in sports.” The initial announcement came with no explanation about what sport or sports were included in the investigation, nor did it detail what triggered the investigation or reassignments. But on Tuesday morning, district officials confirmed to the Miami Herald the reassignments occurred because a trans student had been playing volleyball at the high school. State law prohibits transgender female students from playing on women’s and girls’ sports teams.

In a short, vague emailed statement sent Monday, John Sullivan, a district spokesman, wrote: “The principal of Monarch High School and several staff members have been reassigned to non-school sites pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of improper student participation in sports.” “Although we cannot comment further, we will continue to follow state law and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation,” Sullivan added. “We are committed to providing all our students with a safe and inclusive learning environment.”

In a follow-up email the same day, Keyla Concepcion, a district spokeswoman, named the five employees: James Cecil, the principal; Kenneth May, the assistant principal; Dione Hester, the athletic director; Jessica Norton, the information management technician; and Alex Burgess, a temporary athletic coach.

What the actual fuck? Florida needs to get its shit together. This is disgusting. I hope all parties sue for civil rights violations and WIN. The GQP continually proves it will hurt anyone, even children.

Police raid Moscow gay bars after a Supreme Court ruling labeled LGBTQ+ movement 'extremist'

This is what the right wants to happen in the US. This is one of the reasons they love Putin:

Russian security forces raided gay clubs and bars across Moscow Friday night, less than 48 hours after the country’s top court banned what it called the “global LGBTQ+ movement” as an extremist organization.

Police searched venues across the Russian capital, including a nightclub, a male sauna and a bar that hosted LGBTQ+ parties, under the pretext of a drug raid, local media reported.

Eyewitnesses told journalists that clubgoers’ documents were checked and photographed by the security services. They also said that managers had been able to warn patrons before police arrived.

The raids follow a decision by Russia’s Supreme Court to label the country’s LGBTQ+ “movement” as an extremist organization.

The ruling, which was made in response to a lawsuit filed by the Justice Ministry, is the latest step in a decadelong crackdown on LGBTQ+ rights under President Vladimir Putin, who has emphasized “traditional family values” during his 24 years in power.

Activists have noted the lawsuit was lodged against a movement that is not an official entity, and that under its broad and vague definition authorities could crack down on any individuals or groups deemed to be part of it.

Several LGBTQ+ venues have already closed following the decision, including St. Petersburg’s gay club Central Station. It wrote on social media Friday that the owner would no longer allow the bar to operate with the law in effect.

Max Olenichev, a human rights lawyer who works with the Russian LGBTQ+ community, told The Associated Press before the ruling that it effectively bans organized activity to defend the rights of LGBTQ+ people.

“In practice, it could happen that the Russian authorities, with this court ruling in hand, will enforce (the ruling) against LGBTQ+ initiatives that work in Russia, considering them a part of this civic movement,” Olenichev said.

This might be obscure, but any Gary Numan fans?

Many people say, "Oh that guy who did that song Cars?"

Well yeah, but he has done so much more. If you're a musician or an electronic music fan, you probably already know him. The man has made so much great music, it's crazy. He still makes good stuff.

I have been a fan since "Cars" when I was in 8th grade in the late 70's when that song came out. Been addicted to his stuff ever since.

The reason I bring this up now is, I just got the remastered version of Telekon on double LP vinyl. It's brilliant. I still have my original vinyl of Telekon and there is no comparison. The remaster is amazing.

Just geeking out hard tonight on this one. I want to get Dance next, as it also got the double LP treatment.

Anyone else a fan?

Sade

Sade might be my favorite band ever. They have only made a few records. But each one is beautiful. I and a friend were listening to Promise tonight. Good god. It is just perfect. Not one bad song.

Got a shutout at my hockey game tonight

I haven't mentioned this here, but I am a men's league ice hockey goalie. I got a shutout tonight at our game. Score ended up being 5-0. I needed that as I have been working almost 24/7 for the last few weeks at the office and on a freelance project.

No one has to say anything, it was just a good day.

GOP goes after LGBT seniors

https://www.advocate.com/politics/republicans-strip-lgbtq-funding

Unbelievable. Now they are targeting LGBT seniors too:

The Republican-led House Committee on Appropriations took up and passed a last-minute amendment that sought to strike funding for three community centers that serve LGBTQ+ seniors in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. LGBTQ Senior Housing Inc., William Way LGBT Center, and LGBT Center of Greater Reading were all stripped of funds.

Well, after the Christian wedding website case

It begins:

The owner of a Michigan hair salon said she is refusing service to some members of the LGBTQ+ community. Christine Geiger, who owns Studio 8 Hair Lab in Traverse City, said in a Facebook post she is exercising her free speech by only allowing certain customers. “If a human identifies as anything other than a man/woman, please seek services at a local pet groomer,” the hair salon owner said. “You are not welcome at this salon. Period.”

The post came days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that, under the First Amendment, a web designer could refuse to make a website for same-sex marriages based on her religious beliefs. In March, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. Geiger doubled down in a post Sunday, July 9, on the Overheard in Traverse City Facebook group. She said she has no issue with lesbian, gay or bisexual customers, but said she will not support the “TQ+” community.

“This stance was taken to insure that clients have the best experience, and I am admitting that since I am not willing to play the pronoun game or cater to requests outside of what I perceive as normal,” Geiger said. Some Facebook commenters supported the business owner’s stance, but others called her opinions “discrimination” and “vile behavior.”

I am wondering just how much more of this we'll hear in the near future.

Hi! New here

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I’m a man who happens to be gay from Chicago. It’s hard to find forums online that are decent these days, but this looks like a great one! Also, I work in advertising and am an ice hockey goalie. Looking forward to good, thoughtful discussions! 😊
