About Me

65 years old. Lifelong democrat. Saw JFK in New Haven CT on election eve 1960. I was all of 5 years old. Cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. Stayed up all night at the English Speaking Union I London to watch the returns. We celebrated the results about 9 AM London time. I cried the morning I learned Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I don't think I ever quite recovered, although President Obama's election helped a lot. These days I'm a moderate democrat and a cultural conservative. I miss the world of good manners, fancy dress and dancing cheek to cheek. Big TCM fan.

Two Chinese Real Estate Forecast firms have Defaulted.

Evergrande finally failed to pay off on 1.6 billion dollars worth of bonds. A smaller firm defaulted on a mere 400 million. According to Bloomberg this makes ten Chinese real estate firms that have failed.in recent weeks.

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes blasts ex-boyfriend

in her last day on the witness stand. Apparently the defense rested today.
It's a pretty leisurely trial. Her cross examination was interrupted by something like a five day break. Now final arguments are scheduled for Dec. 16. Usually judges like to hurry things along. Not this one.
Well, the defense seems to be her saying she didn't intend to be a fraudster. We'll see how it played, I assume before the holiday.

Pearl Harbor victim identification program comes to an end.

Recent efforts by the military have identified 355 of those lost on the USS Oklahoma on December 7, 1941. Only 33 remain unidentified.

Odd testimony in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial.

Apparently a woman named Kate testified today, one of four women the government is expected to call and are described in the indictment as victims.
The thing of it is the judge told the jury before she testified that she was over the age of consent at the time and thus was not a victim.
I'm sure the feds had a reason for calling her, but you would think they would prefer witnesses who are victims as opposed to those who are not.
Actually, I have no idea what's going on with the trial.
