About Me

65 years old. Lifelong democrat. Saw JFK in New Haven CT on election eve 1960. I was all of 5 years old. Cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. Stayed up all night at the English Speaking Union I London to watch the returns. We celebrated the results about 9 AM London time. I cried the morning I learned Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I don't think I ever quite recovered, although President Obama's election helped a lot. These days I'm a moderate democrat and a cultural conservative. I miss the world of good manners, fancy dress and dancing cheek to cheek. Big TCM fan.

Can we make a rule that Rachel can't go on vacation?

Another week? Sheesh!

No mask mandate in Connecticut yet.

All the CT counties are listing substantial increases in Covid even though this is a highly vaxed state. The department of health is urging indoor masks but no mandate from the governor, which surprised me. Maybe state mask mandates are just a political dead issue at this point.
Only been to two stores since Friday. I reluctantly donned mine but hardly anyone else did.

Young People: The Secret Covid Threat?

Unfortunately the story is paywalled but it does report that 2/3 of people over 50 are vaxed, less than half between 18 and 39, and 58 percent of those 12 - 17 haven't had the shot.
Maybe it's the music they listen to.

PS if you haven't used the NYT site recently you may be able to read for free.

Who are these people?

Breakthrough infection reporting sucks!

Breakthrough infections appear to be rare but the reporting by states isn't very good. Half the states don't seem to keep stats. Others don't report very often. The CDC stopped keeping track of asymptomatic breakthroughs in May. You would think they would want that info in light of the recent evidence of transmissibility. There is some information but we could use a lot more.

Chicago - Judy Garland

Don't tell me sin is rampant and rife!
I saw a man who danced with his wife!

One good thing about Covid:

All the restaurants these days seem to have outdoor seating. Pretty nice in the warm weather.
