Nikki Haley Surrendered, But Not Her Voters - Atlantic

The views of Nikki Haley Republicans—pro-Ukraine, pro-Israel, pro-market—reflect all those things that Republicans used to think in that bygone era when Reagans and Bushes and Romneys roamed the earth. But few feel any emotional bond to Haley. If she gives a Ted Kennedy style “dream shall never die” speech at the Republican convention in Milwaukee this summer, they won’t tear up. They’ll wonder what the hell she imagines she’s talking about.

Most of her supporters voted for Haley as a way to stop Trump. Haley’s announcement today that she intends to vote for Trump won’t raise their opinion of him, it will only lower their opinion of her. When she says, as she said again today, that she wished Donald Trump would “reach out” to her voters, she’s speaking words that may sound like English, but make no sense. The only way Donald Trump could reach out to Trump-skeptical Republicans is by pleading guilty to the many criminal charges against him and vowing to devote the rest of his life to restitution for the victims of his many civil frauds.

Sorry there's a paywall, I was able to read the entire article on my newsapp. Maybe someone knows where there's another copy of this?

Haley has sold out, for the sake of her own political future, but I don't see it doing her much good in 2028---
the Trump base will never go for her, and the voters she is selling out right now are less likely to vote for her again...

I WON'T PLEDGE TO ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF THE 2024 ELECTION,

especially if the Republicans try to steal it through legislative technicalities.... such as refusing to certify state results, and throwing it into the House of Fascist Representatives..... If that happens, then "it's ON"

But I'm nobody.... although I am more of a patriot than the Republicans
have been electing to represent their gerrymandered House districts
and red states.... who have the power to really fuck this country over

I hold no office, but IMHO all those Republicans who DO hold an office,
but refuse to abide by the results of the presidential election
(if they don't happen to like the results),
ought to be REMOVED from office....

I don't much care by what means--- hopefully by an election first, or an 'act of God' second,
but if by an act of Satan, I could live with that too.

"Feeble": Biden Camp Has a Field Day With Wobbly Trump at Podium

The Biden campaign gleefully turned one of Donald Trump’s favorite digs against him on Saturday, branding the 78-year-old candidate as woefully geriatric in response to his embarrassing stumble at a Minnesota rally on Friday.

Video from the event shared by Biden-Harris HQ on X showed Trump grabbing the lectern during his remarks on stage, after nearly toppling the podium over.

“A feeble Trump nearly falls down on stage after he leans on his podium too hard and then goes on an angry rant calling his event workers ‘crappy,’” the caption reads.

In the video, Trump dramatically leans over the side of the podium, shuffles out from behind it, and then launches into a tirade about the poor quality of the stage setup.

Michigan: Just saw my first Biden campaign ad on broadcast television!

(I don't have cable.)

Only caught the last half of it, it was about protecting Obamacare,
and preventing Trump from destroying it!

It was playing on the local Fox affiliate station...

Actually, I think that is the first political ad I've seen on broadcast TV, this year.

Glad to see President Biden's campaign going to work early here in Michigan!

My comment:
Goddammit! sliding onto my state ballot via one of our too-many qualified 'parties'....
Well, the stupid little nut said a few months back that he would be willing to sign an abortion ban after the first trimester--- so we should hammer him with that until the cows go home....

The Fall of Wake Island... and Donald Trump's tooth brush...

(reposted in full from General Discussion, after someone located this forum for me) https://democraticunderground.com/100218826582

(in reference to a judge's comment that Donald Trump should be prepared to pack his toothbrush, on the way to jail-- reminded me of one of my favorite books)

If Donald Trump is allowed to carry a toothbrush with him to jail,
he will be luckier than a few United States Marines....

Many (or all?) of the American Marines captured at the fall of Wake Island by the Japanese in late December 1941, were not allowed to bring toothbrushes with them when being shipped out for prison camp.

Their commander himself, Major James Devereux, was prohibited from carrying one in his personal baggage. The Japanese officer in authority explained,

'Many of the Japanese people do not own toothbrushes'.

~from 'The Story Of Wake Island' by James P.S. Devereux

(Old book but a simple, quick, and epic read, if you can find a copy. Check eBay-- I found an old hard-cover copy there, after wearing out my paperback version--- I read it about once a year!)

So. if Trump is allowed to carry a toothbrush to jail, he should count himself fortunate!

Of course, I am quite sure that Donald Trump would consider the American defenders in the battle for Wake Island,
the most incredible story of the defense of a military post by a small force against incredible odds since the battle for the Alamo,

to be "LOSERS" ---

since they eventually had to surrender
(a decision which was made by the Naval commander of the island, not the Marines--- they could have continued to spend casualties, but there was nothing they could buy with them--- surrounded by a good number of large Japanese navy ships who could have leveled the island with their shells, while staying safely out of range of the Marine's smaller artillery...)

and the U.S. Naval task force which had been sent to reinforce and defend Wake had been ordered to turn back. Navy pilots on the carrier wept on the deck, when they were informed of the orders...

However, the spirited defense of Wake Island for more than two weeks in December 1941 by a tiny detachment of U.S. Marines (who numbered less than half of the 'training allowance' they were supposed to have for their units), was one of the most important ((and only)) war news stories that would build up American morale after the Pearl Harbor disaster, because it proved that Americans could and would fight!

Less than 400 Marine defenders, using their artillery to advantage, caused more than 5,000 Japanese casualties, sunk up to nine ships, and turned back the first Japanese task force sent to take the island, while being bombed almost every day between December 8th and December 22nd, 1941. A second Japanese task force more than a week later landed troops under the cover of night and overwhelmed them, which resulted in the surrender just before Christmas 1941.

'Losers' ?

We all know who the REAL "loser" is....

---an orange guy who most probably has no idea where Wake Island is,
or what happened there in December of 1941....

and will probably be permitted to take a toothbrush with him to jail.

(I never served, but I say God Bless Those Who Have---
and Semper Fi to all current and former United States Marines,
for whom I have the utmost respect!)

The Lawyer that Trump deserved to have defending him in the Carrol case...

(Gotta love the unintended foreshadowing, with the "Coach" star as the prosecuting attorney years before "Coach" was created, and the final line of his opening statement:

"Let's make THIS our 'goal-line stand'! " lol)

(( And if you have never seen this movie, the clip is definitely worth your time---
afterwards you are guaranteed to want to see the whole thing.....))
