Why do Dems seem a bit afraid of tackling a subject with 60%+ approval from the general population?

I don't want to frame this as a criticism of Dems. This is pretty much based on my own curiosity.

Do Dems realize how much weed is traded on the black market, on a daily basis. In other words, do we understand how much non-taxed/untaxed weed is bought and sold. Some states have taken their own initiative and legalized rec pot. Some states only allow medicinal pot, requiring a doctor prescription and other often very difficult hoops to jump through.

Those states are seeing economic growth as the pot industry provides so many jobs. Legal pot is a tax revenue generator and these states are seeing benefits.

Legal pot at the federal level could create a national industry, with perhaps millions of jobs. The tax revenue is a necessity to help our country get through this tough time. Again, do we realize how much untaxed pot is bought and sold each day in the US?

President Biden's infrastructure plan is giving me some New Deal vibes. I support it 100%. Our country needs it. Legal pot can help pay for it.

Regarding human rights, it's the right thing to do. Stop caging people in prisons for non-violent pot offenses. Pardon them.

In poll after poll, I keep reading that support for legal weed from the general population is almost always in the mid 60% approval. Legal weed is politically popular.

We tax liquor.

Do we realize how much revenue is lost on a daily basis by keeping pot illegal?

Please Democrats, start talking about it.

While I dislike grading Democrats, Biden is giving me FDR-like vibes and has earned a straight A.

The reason I don't like grading Democrats is simple. They are handed shit-show after shit-show. They are forced to attempt to the best of their abilities, to work with the fucking imbeciles known as the entire GOP, accept for maybe, Romney, Collins. The only 2 GOPers that at least have a limited ability to be reasonable..

Democrats are often forced to compromise with a GOP party filled with MTG idiotic ideology.

Personally, I've learned a lesson in my 50 year old existence. Before I criticize an elected Dem I ask myself, could I do any better in their shoes? If I were an elected official in their shoes, could I gather the votes to get our bills passed?

I've finally learned in life to stop being critical and start being thankful. Thankful that we have Democrats willing to fight for us. Thankful that we have a Democratic Party that fights against a racist and authoritarian GOP. I'm very thankful to every Dem who fought the good fight for a $15 minimum wage in vain, keep fighting that good fight. Eventually, we will win that one.

I'm thankful that Dems are fighting to save our environment and planet from the planet-killing robber barons known as the GOP.

To every Democratic Party officeholder, thank you for fighting to preserve voting rights. Thank YOU! for fighting against the GOP's war on voting.

Global Warming is the #1 threat to our future. Warming hastens the evolution of microbial life. The same kinds of microbes that start global pandemics. Warming raises ocean levels, floods out entire regions, and contributes to every storm's severity.

Notice the increase in storm severity in the past 20 years?

Democrats do while Rethugs pray it away.

Notice the gun violence epidemic in the U.S. in the past X hundreds of years?

Where is the pro-life GOP on mass shootings and on the fact that 2020 was the US's deadliest year ever, regarding gun-related deaths?
Where are these so-called pro-lifers when another daily mass shooting kills another 10 and wounds 30? Or worse, even more dead and wounded..

Where are these GOP pro-lifers? Busy praying it away.

I'm thankful we have a Democratic Party that realizes that we need more than prayers, we need sensible gun regulations. Other nations do it with great results. The UK, Scandinavian nations, Australia, Japan do not have near-daily mass shootings because of strong gun regulations.

Gun regulations work.

I'm thankful that we have a Dem Party that stands up to the gun lobby/NRA etc.

President Biden has shown strong leadership and has fought for all of the above. Pres Biden's just released infrastructure plan is an economic re-builder, on par with FDR's New Deal.

If I could give any advice to a political veteran like Pres Joe,

Legalize Marijuana to pay for your New Deal 2 level infrastructure plan. Our county needs your infrastructure plan.

Frame your presidency as the New Deal 2. Pres Biden has shown some seriously great progressive chops early in his presidency. I'm a Bernie-bro that has long been a Biden political admirer.

Biden was a force in the Senate for those many years. To this day, he is still highly respected by the U.S. Senate. Another reason why Biden is a great fighter for us.

In closing, from an old yellow-dog, crusty curmudgeon, to Pres Biden...

I am thankful that you are my President!! Thank God!! Thank the stars!!

I'm just plain thankful that leaders like Joe exist.

Salute to Democrats.

New York Reaches a Deal to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

Source: NYT

New York State officials finalized a deal on Thursday to legalize recreational marijuana in the state, paving the way for a potential $4.2 billion industry that could create tens of thousands of jobs and become one of the largest markets in the country.

Following several failed attempts, lawmakers in Albany struck an agreement with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to legalize cannabis for adults 21 and older, a move that officials hope will help end years of racially disproportionate policing that saw Black and Hispanic people arrested on low-level marijuana charges far more frequently than white people.

The deal would allow delivery of the drug and permit club-like lounges or “consumption sites” where marijuana, but not alcohol, could be consumed, according to details obtained by The New York Times. It would also allow a person to cultivate up to six marijuana plants at home, indoors or outdoors, for personal use.

Wow, this is big news. I think this makes NY the second state to legalize rec pot through their state legislature, rather than by ballot initiative.
(EDIT: Illinois was the first state to legalize through their state legislature, signed by Gov JB Pritzker)
That is what makes this such a big deal in the most positive way.

I hope national Dems follow suit.

Legal marijuana is PERMANENT economic stimulus.

Nationwide legal marijuana will create millions of jobs.

Federally tax it and it will create a tax base of its own. It will generate billions of dollars of revenue for the treasury. It could be used in part to pay down the debt and deficits. Part of it could be used to fund nationwide infrastructure projects.

Legal pot can be a revenue source that funds other revenue generating sources. The economic activity and growth generated by a massive national infrastructure re-building project would be a massive shot in the arm of our national economy but also a major revenue generator.

Legal pot can have that kind of positive domino effect. It can stimulate the economy in a positive ripple that creates opportunity all throughout our economy.

Legal pot can create economic growth in so many ways.

Legal pot is also very popular in polling nowadays.

It's time Democrats. Score major points with swing voters that we need in order to win elections by pushing to legalize pot. Rescue the economy in the process.
The people will love you for it.

The GOPs war on democracy is an attack on the United States itself.

When a peon has the power to remove an emperor, the authoritarians shit themselves.

Voting and democracy enable countless peons to remove emperors, like Agent Orange, err Trump.

And thus, the authoritarian GOP is shitting itself. We see it in the numerous GOP voter-suppression laws being passed in many statehouses across this great land.

Democrats, CALL THEM OUT in your TV ads and on social media platforms like youtube, FB, IG etc.

Challenge every potential voter by asking them,

Are you going to allow the GOP to prevent you from voting?

Your vote can remove the authoritarian class from power. Your vote can remove the voter-suppressing GOP from power.

Are you going to allow the GOP to suppress your voice and your vote?

Democrats, its time to wage a pro-democracy, pro-voting war of our own.

The GOP is trying to silence a majority of US citizens by suppressing their ability to vote.

The fascist fucks shit themselves by your power to remove them from power, simply by voting.

Challenge EVERY voter to overcome Rethug voter suppression by turning out and voting.

Ask voters,
Will YOU allow the GOP to stop you from casting a ballot?

Make it the theme for 2022 and 2024 election cycles.

"I'm On The Highway To Hell" by ACDC is weirdly stuck in my head today...

I once saw a bumper sticker that read..

"The highway to Hell is paved with Republicans."

Texas GOP deregulated itself into blackouts and power failure. Utility companies went cheap..

To increase profits, Texas power companies went cheap after their state GOP dominated legislative bodies no longer required regulations that planned for future stresses to the power grid.

A weak power grid is prone to any stress, like a cold spell.

GOP deregulation kills.

Texas GOP are murderers.

(Texas utility companies tend to be huge GOP donors)

Should Dems investigate the Texas GOP for these treasonous acts?

So the billowing clouds of second and third hand smoke were bad after all..

Rush was well-known for his cigar habit and would often gloat about how second and sometimes third hand smoke wasn't bad for a person as he sat in his radio studio during his hate-casts.

Ive seen some vids on the subject and yes the whole room was filled with smoke.

All the while he was spewing hatred that anti-smoking efforts were a liberal conspiracy to take away our freedoms and according to him, there's nothing wrong with breathing smoke.

Then he was diagnosed with lung cancer and the rest is history.

Rush was wrong about everything he spewed from his forked tongue mouth.

This wrong opinion cost him his life.

Yes, it's time to call on the DOJ to appoint an army of special prosecutors..

Pepperoni pizza tastes great.

Bears shit in the woods.

Water is wet.

Trump and his cabal need to be investigated, indicted and prosecuted. RIGHT. FUCKING. NOW.

Failing to do so is like taking a crap on the face of the notion of rule of law.

"Big Govt" is GOP codeword for big democracy. How your vote levels the playing field and RW hates it

When Reich-wingers talk about their hatred for big govt, what they really mean is their hatred for high turnout voting. They hate the fact that voting can and does level the playing field.

Our votes can undo their grip on power.

Look at the GOP's assault on our right and ability to cast our ballots in the past 40 years and you'll see their relentless attacks on making it more difficult to cast a ballot.

Look at Trump's recent assault on democracy. He loathed the mail-in ballot with orange-faced hatred.

To right-wing fascist conservatives, voting is the "big govt" that they fear.

They don't fear big police states.

They don't fear big prisons.

They don't fear blank check deficit spending on the military.

They don't fear capital punishment and executions.

They don't fear big govt invading a woman's right to choose or her choice to use BC.

They don't fear making gay people just disappear.

But they do fear your right to vote.

Your right to vote IS the "big govt" that they fear.

Your right to vote levels the playing field and the GOP, Qanon, MTG, and every Trumpist hates you for it.

On a level playing field where almost everyone votes, should govt of the people ever be feared?

Yet that scares the shit out of almost every GOPer.

Vote and level the playing field. And scare the shit out of the GOP as a bonus.
