Man Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison For Sucker-Punching 12-Year-Old Boy Dancing On Street Corner

A man from Missouri was sentenced to seven years in prison for assaulting a 12-year-old boy who was dancing on the sidewalk. Cedric Charles Moore Jr, residing in Cape Girardeau, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault on May 10, 2021.

The incident, which took place summer of 2020, was captured on film. In the video, Moore can be seen exiting a black SUV near the intersection of Main Street and Independence Street in downtown Cape Girardeau. He quietly approaches the young dancer, Ethan Hagler, who was accompanied by his teacher, Michael Curry, and another boy. Without warning, Moore throws a punch at the child’s face. Curry and his friend chase after Moore as he quickly retreats to the waiting SUV, which then drives away.

At the time of the assault on Hagler, Moore was already serving probation for a prior felony domestic assault conviction in 2019. In addition to the seven-year prison sentence for the sucker-punch incident, The Smoking Gun reported that Moore received a separate four-year incarceration sentence for violating the conditions of his probation. Both sentences will be served concurrently.

Rising Seas Are Likely to Sow Havoc Much Sooner Than Predicted

Rising Seas Are Likely to Sow Havoc Much Sooner Than Predicted

Around the world, communities are bracing for sea level rise: the Netherlands is stabilizing its dikes, Senegal is relocating neighborhoods, and Indonesia is moving its entire capital city. These projects are hefty, expensive, and slow.

But they may need to pick up the pace. As new research shows, in many places, sea level rise will cause coastal flooding and other disruptions much sooner than anyone realized. It’s not that the water is rising faster; it’s that the land was lower to begin with.

Calculating when a rising sea will flood any one place involves a lot of math: you need to know the height of the water, the range of the tide, the elevation and slope of the land, the pace of sea level rise, and how much the land itself is rising or falling, among myriad other factors. As with all of science, the accuracy of these predictions is only as good as the data flowing into them.

Former Round Rock pastor pleads guilty child pornography charges

A former Round Rock pastor pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to an “enhanced charge of possession of child pornography,” according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

David Lloyd Walther, 57, knowingly searched for, downloaded, distributed and possessed child sexual abuse material, including child pornography—some of which depicted prepubescent minors—using BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file sharing network, according to the DOJ.

Two large computers were found during a search of Walther’s home and vehicle in November 2022 that contained more than 100,000 images and more than 5,000 videos of child sex abuse material, the release said.
