Thomas Taro Higa (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Taro_Higa) volunteered to serve in World War II at a time when the government was forcing Japanese-Americans like himself into internment camps. As a PFC, he received a silver star after he ran into gunfire and rescued two of his battle buddies when shot in the back. He was a member of the 100th Infantry batallion -one of the most decorated battalions in history, and suffered among the most casualties in the war. He was one of half a dozen Japanese American uncles of my mothers who served in world war two in the 442nd or 100th battalion (I think they merged in 1944).
All of them were wounded in combat. All of them saw friends die. All of these people were motivations for me to join the service myself some years back, where I also knew my share of those who died and were wounded. Donald Trump believes that everybody who joined the service, was wounded or died, was a sucker. He cannot fathom anybody doing anything for anybody other than themselves. No Mr. President, those who died were not losers.
Those of us who served -and our friends who died, were not fools. Mr President: May your contempt for those better than you rot you to your very cowardly core.
