Chainfire
Chainfire's JournalThe strangest thing about this election is
that, with the worst President to ever fill the job, that the election is competitive at all.
That it will be competitive is an indication of what a serious danger our Representative Democracy is in. Electing Biden will give us some time to catch our breath, but it will not cure what is deeply wrong with our nation. We are no longer one people or one nation. The virus has shown us just how deeply divided we are. In days past, confronting such a danger would have brought us together, as one, to face and defeat the crisis. We are living in the most dangerous time since our Civil War. We are rotting from the inside.
I did it!
Whew, I made it. Third in line in my polling place, first day of in-person Florida early voting. Now, if I croak, I have done my duty.
My little third world county handles elections very well, everything was set up to be as safe and efficient as possible.

A trip down memory lane, or, immediately means never

Wake up America, the nightmare is over
should be the theme of President Biden's first address to the nation.
Should we plan to take our cameras to the polls?
Official "poll watchers" in my state have to be trained and certified. I worry about unofficial poll watchers hanging about the parking lot trying to intimidate voters. My rural county, in Florida, is majority black with whites making up only 36% of the population. That 36% is overwhelmingly right-wing and very vocal. I can see potential problems since the President has suggested that his people turn out to "watch." Maybe we need folks to watch the watchers.
Election day math
Are the numbers of mail in ballots sufficient to skew the exit polls, on election day, to overrepresent Trump's support?
If Trump was a soldier, instead of the Commander In Chief
He could be charged with Article 134, (pertaining to self injury) under the Unified Code of Military Justice. Here is a snippet:
For offenses alleging disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline (clause 1 offenses) and for offenses alleging conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces (clause 2 offenses):
(a) That the accused did or failed to do certain acts; and
(b) That under the circumstances, accuseds conduct was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces.
By failing to follow the CDC guidelines, and, in effect, making himself sick, he could be held responsible to a Court Martial and could be dishonorably discharged from the service, among other possible penalties.
But, he is the Commander in Chief, and therefore above the laws that his troops have to follow....
