Quantifying evil is strange. If someone kills 50 people as opposed to 100, are they any less evil?

What about a serial rapist who never murders anyone? What about a white-collar sociopath who defrauds investors, even if only his or her own family and friends?

Moreover, as far as I know, the only human life Hitler ever personally took was his own. By that standard, he has nothing on Ted Bundy or Stephen Paddock. Or does he? Is it in fact more evil to have other people kill on your behalf than at least have the “courage” to do the deed yourself?

What about one’s motives and intentions - in addition to the consequences of one’s actions and the actions themselves? What’s in the human heart?

Behold, the Party of Rapture-welcoming fanatics, power-hungry cynics, and far-right nihilists.

I’m talking, of course, about the Republican Party, the modern one.

Democrats (and many/most Independents) recognize the existential threat we’re facing, and are doing their damnedest to stop it.

Republicans (ie. Trump supporters) also recognize the existential threat we’re facing, and are eagerly doing their damndest to speed it along.

That’s the difference. That’s a key root of our polarization, layered with centuries of all-American foundations of racism, xenophobia. sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, spiced with Fake News from hostile foreign actors like Vladimir Putin (a jaded KGB man and resentful cynic himself - no wonder Trump and other Republicans like him) along with the existing far-right media infrastructure of Murdoch’s rags + FOX, talk radio, Sinclair, OneAmerica, Breitbart, InfoWars, the NRA, the white supremacist evangelicals and neo-Birchers...ok, I’m rambling, but you get the gist I hope.

There are more of us than there are of them. But they’ll stop at nothing, because they have no shame, no scruples, no sense of or care for basic notions of right or wrong. For them, it’s all about blowing up the world to spite the rest of us. That’s where we are now...

Yes! Count me in as a member of the Against Normalizing Trump club.

Why hasn't Trump been impeached for ongoing violations of the Emoluments Clause?

That is well documented and seems to be very clearly “using the Presidency for personal and/or political gain.” Easily falls under impeachable offenses.

What’s going on at Trump International Hotel? What’s going on at Mar-e-Lago? Who’s financing Trump’s properties that are supervised by his kids and the Trump Organization - all of which 45 is continually briefed on. So much for “divesting.”

What about the Inaugural Committee? Or Trump’s re-election campaign? The graft never fucking ends...

Even if there were no overt ties to Russian interference in the 2016 (and now, 2020) presidential election on Trump’s behalf (and there are), even if there were no Mueller investigation or FBI counterintelligence investigation, even if there wasn’t the quid pro quo with Ukraine, even if there wasn’t obstruction if justice and lying and witness tampering and threats to whistleblowers - even if none or most of the above hadn’t happened (and it did and is ongoing, of course), Trump and his family and their associates have still been brazenly profiting off of the Presidency while dealing in corrupt influence-peddling with foreign governments and a lot of unprecedented, unregulated lobbying from very rich and powerful people. How is THAT not impeachable?!

Khashoggi was not a dissident reporter until very late in his life.

He (and his family going back to his grandfather) was well-connected to the House of Saud - as well-connected as, for example, the bin Laden family.

He even worked for long-time head of Saudi intelligence and then Ambassador to the United Kingdom and (briefly) the United States Prince Turki bin Faisal - who had been Osama bin Laden’s patron in the 1980s war in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. And Khashoggi publicly defended MBS, at least initially. His conversion to full-fledged Saudi dissident happened within the last year or two of his life.

I’m inclined to believe this story.

Trump's political advantages are based in racism and sexism.

Therefore, we should nominate someone who fuels Trump’s cultural grievance advantages.

Jamal Khashoggi "knew a lot about the Saudi government's involvement in 9/11", said families' lawyer

This was from two months ago (November 2019).

Why was Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi murdered?

Speculation about the motive for Khashoggi’s assassination inside Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul has centered on his outspoken criticism of the Saudi government and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS, in opinion pieces published in the Post. Now, a new potential motive is in play.

“Khashoggi was killed not because he was a dissident, but because of his contact with us,” said James Kreindler, a prominent New York attorney who represents thousands of 9/11 family members and survivors who are suing Saudi Arabia.

“As we told the Washington Post the last contact I had with Mr. Khashoggi was via text on Oct 26 2017. I never talked to him by phone and certainly never suggested he go to Turkey for any reason. I ask the government to release any information regarding this claim,” Khalid (bin Salman, brother of MBS and son of King Salman) wrote on Twitter on Nov. 16, 2018.

According to Kreindler, Oct. 26, 2017 was also the day Khashoggi had met with an investigator for the 9/11 families in Washington.

“Khashoggi was part of the intelligence community and we knew he knew a lot about the Saudi government’s involvement in 9/11. He was connected to the Muslim Brotherhood and to [former Saudi Crown Prince] Muhammad bin Nayef, and that’s the reason our investigator went to speak with him,” said Kreindler. “She said would you come to New York and talk to my boss? He said yes.

“I’m sure that as soon as she left, he called KBS [Khalid bin Salman] and said, ‘Look, the 9/11 lawyers are on to me. They know that I know what you guys did and I didn’t give ‘em anything, but you’re holding my kid in Saudi Arabia and if you harm him I will.’ So my belief is that Khashoggi was killed not because he was a dissident, there are lots of dissidents, but because he was holding this ax over the Saudis’ heads.”

Exactly what Khashoggi might have known, if anything, about the government of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in 9/11 may never be known. No information was obtained from Khashoggi during the October 2017 session. “It was a preliminary meeting,” said Kreindler.

Brace Yourself Sanders Supporters, It's Going to Get Ugly.

...this (comments from Sanders campaign about Warren) is an entirely manufactured scandal that no one should treat as anything other than what it is: typical campaign politics. But it does signify a shift that’s already happening. Now that even Bret Stephens is recognizing Sanders has a chance to run away with the nomination, and with only weeks to go, Sanders’s opponents are belatedly taking aim at him.

After a spate of stories about Obama and his circle’s potential plans to stop Sanders from winning dropped, right on cue, Jim Messina — Obama’s 2012 campaign manager who has been busy the last eight years racking up an impressive losing record of election campaigns — told Politico Sanders would lose to Trump. Biden and Sanders are increasingly firing shots at each other. And even James O’Keefe is planning to drop some misleadingly edited bullshit about the guy he’s scared could beat Trump.

The 2020 election is not about which candidate is the politest, which candidate says the nicest things about their opponents, or which candidate most closely adheres to the made-up campaign rules in place since 2016 that say you can never draw any contrast between yourself and other candidates. It’s about which candidate is the most committed to fighting for universal health care, most determined to save the world from climate change, has the most far-reaching vision for turning around decades of disastrous US foreign policy, and, of course, is best positioned to beat Trump.

As the weeks and months roll by, it’s only going to get worse. Cut through the noise and remember what’s at stake.

Vote for whomever aligns with your values the most - and do everything you can to elect our nominee.

Period. End of story.

I trust that everyone here is with me on this!!

How much you wanna bet that the Saudis and the Emiratis will use this as proof of a Qatar-Iran plot

to attack them (and Israel and the US)?
