crimycarny's JournalSwedish company Orbital Systems reduces water consumption by 90%.
One of my biggest worries when it comes to global warming is water or lack thereof. I try to keep up on innovations in this area and one company I've kept my eye on is Orbital Systems, based out of Sweden.
Orbital Systems has created a water recycling system that can massively reduce household water consumption. It's based on space technology research for missions to Mars. Since it would take 150-300 days to Mars, NASA and other organizations had to figure out how to reuse small amounts of water over and over. That technology is what inspired Orbital Systems.
The Orbital Shower system uses 90% less water and 80% less energy than a standard shower. The Orbital Tap reuses water from the sink (such as for hand washing) to flush the toilet.

Pentagon pilot for independent lab generic drug testing--FDA tries to get in the way
The Pentagon recently started a pilot project with a private independent lab Valisure to test generics. In that study, Valisure found a drug given to soldiers who had lost limbs not only didn't contain enough active ingredient to be effective, but it contained impurities that could cause kidney failure and seizures. From the article:
One morning in October, US Army Colonel Victor Suarez finished his usual morning workout a 32-mile bike ride and then sat down in his home office in Frederick, Maryland. When he opened his email, his stomach dropped.
Suarez spent his career getting medicines to military hospitals and combat troops, including those in Iraq and Afghanistan. He had recently sought out an independent lab to assess the quality of those drugs, in large part because he doubted the US Food and Drug Administrations ability to police a supply chain now dominated by low-cost manufacturers in India and China. His inbox offered a glimpse of the first batch of test results.
They revealed that some generic versions of one important drug, given to soldiers whove lost limbs in combat, might not work. They could even cause kidney failure and seizures. The idea that already-wounded personnel might be facing an even more difficult recovery all to save a dollar or two a pill gutted Suarez. Oh my God, what are we doing here? he recalled thinking.
Still more infuriating was that doctors had long warned the FDA that some versions of the drug performed poorly. Known by the chemical name tacrolimus, its typically prescribed to organ-transplant patients. The lab Suarez engaged had started testing samples in early September. One of the generics assessed as problematic is manufactured in India by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It was only a couple of weeks later that the FDA announced, after more than a decade of study, that the Intas version wasnt equivalent to the brand-name drug it sought to mimic. The outside lab had taken a month to flag similar problems.
Here is a link to the entire article. Unfortunately, it requires you to put in an email to register for a free account. I used my junk email. It's worth a read.

Concussed: The American Dream
Just finished watching the documentary Concussed: The American Dream. Its a documentary on the NFL concussion/CTE crisis but it centers largely around a less famous NFL player, Tyler Sash, who suffered 3 major concussions in just 2 years and observations from his family and friends on his degeneration. Its was very well done. Unfortunately its not free, you have to rent. Its on Amazon, YouTube, Apple TV and some others (again, have to rent). Heartbreaking footage of Tyler as a kid and throughout his life. Sweet, humble, kind, and generous.

Women (girls) being harrassed boys with "Your body, my choice"
Reports of males holding up picket signs with "Your body, my choice" at two separate Texas Universities.
https://www.texastribune.org/2024/11/07/texas-state-president-offensive-signs/
Locally this is happening in high schools and even middle schools. My neighbor's middle school daughter came home to say boys were harassing girls with this same phrase.
I hope those Trump voters with daughters understand the danger they just put their daughters in.
Grateful that Tim Kaine and Marco Rubio (of all people) passed bill preventing President from leaving NATO unilaterly
I was googling "Does the President have the authority to leave NATO" (for obvious reasons) and came across an article about a bill Congress approved that would prevent the President of the United States from leaving NATO unilaterally.
"Under the measure, advocated by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the president would be prohibited from withdrawing from NATO without the approval of two-thirds of the Senate or separate legislation passed by Congress."
https://www.kaine.senate.gov/in-the-news/congress-approves-bill-barring-presidents-from-unilaterally-exiting-nato
Of course, Trump has never been one to pay attention to the rules, but at least this bill gives a legal hurdle he'd have to overcome. And if Marco Rubio, of all people, joined together with Tim Kaine to pass this bill, that tells me the majority of the GOP wouldn't vote to withdraw from NATO.
Trump's election has been a major blow in my grief journey (lost my son to suicide)
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to be posting this, but I lost my son in 1/2022 to suicide (was a shock to everyone, my son had no diagnosed mental illness). He and I talked politics all the time and were worried about the 2020 election. My son was able to see Biden be elected President, but I think the mental damage from the toxic and chaotic environment Trump created as well as the havoc and isolation of COVID were just too much for my son. He ended his life about 3 weeks after January 6th.
Rightly or wrongly, I was hanging onto Harris's beating Trump as a "sign" that there is a point to this life. It may sound odd, and I'm not exactly sure why Trump's re-election delivered such a blow to my faith, but the tiny tiny thread of hope I had in any sort of afterlife, or point to this life, disintegrated after Trump's re-election.
There is no "Creator" guiding this world. There is no point in choosing love versus hate, or trying to live a good life, because if someone as evil as Trump can destroy so many lives yet suffer zero consequences, then our existence in this world and what happens to us is just random coincidence. There is no "karma", no consequences for evil, and no reward for good. We're just random beings with zero point and when we die, that's it. Nothing we do matters.
Since Trump's re-election, I no longer try to "talk" to my son as if maybe he is there in some sort of afterlife. My soul was mortally wounded when my son died, only a small whisper of it still hanging on to hope, now my soul is completely dead. I can't wait until this life is over.
Sorry to be so depressed, but I just had to get my thoughts out.
Christopher Bouzy shares Vantage Data House latest predictions
I've been following Christopher Bouzy as he's been fairly reliable the last several elections. He is on Spoutible (and twitter).
Here is what he got from the latest Vantage Data House data that CBouzy shared (I hope the link works).
https://spoutible.com/thread/37638488
Right now Vantage Data House has Harris winning all swing states. Vantage Data House is a new kid on the block with a different methodology which they claim is more accurate.
Fingers crossed....!
EDIT: Found a twitter link too:

One reason I hate donating to political campaigns
The ENDLESS emails asking for more money and always framed with a fear-based message.
Today's email from Harris-Walz HQ made me finally unsubscribe. The subject line was: "Unfortunately if the election were held today we could very well lose". WTF? That is not a motivating message and feels manipulative as well. Why why why do campaigns use these fear tactics?
I will continue to donate but, honestly, I really hate the constant fear-mongering as a way to bleed more money. I respond much more positively to a hopeful message. Like "We're on track to win this! Please help keep our momentum going". Not "hey, 3 days to go and we're going to lose unless you give money". Total turn off.
Interesting post from cbouzy about raw data for Harris and Debby Murcasel-Powell in FL
First, let me say I am very skeptical that Florida will flip, largely because I'd expect Kamala to have at least one campaign stop in FL if their internal polling shows the race flippable.
That being said cbouzy (Christopher Bouzy), who has been remarkably accurate in 2020 and 2022 results, has been saying for weeks that Florida is "in play".
In this recent post, he states that Vantage Data House has given him a look at their raw data. He says it shows Kamala leading by 1 point and Debby Murcasel-Powell ahead by 2 points. 13% of Republicans crossed over to Harris, and Harris also got the NPA vote.
Again, FWIW. Florida would be huge (obviously) and would make election night a lot less stressful. Maybe those 13.9% Haley GOP primary voters are crossing over?
