538: Warren's Rise Hasn't Come At Biden's Expense

Warren’s Rise Hasn’t Come At Biden’s Expense
Biden’s numbers are steady in post-Ukraine polls

(snip) Joe Biden is still doing reasonably well in the polls.

Elizabeth Warren’s doing well, too! She probably hasn’t overtaken Biden in national polls, yet, but it’s pretty darn close — close enough that she was momentarily ahead in one national polling average (from RealClearPolitics) last week. You’d certainly rather be in Warren’s shoes than Biden’s in Iowa and New Hampshire. (Although not in South Carolina, and the Super Tuesday states aren’t so clear.) In fact, if you want to argue that she’s the most likely nominee, I don’t have any real problem with that. I also don’t have any real problem if you think it’s Biden, or that it’s too close to call.

But Warren’s gains have come mostly at the expense of the rest of the field — from Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders, in particular — and from other candidates, such as Cory Booker, whose campaigns never really took off in the first place. Relatively little of Warren’s increased support has come from Biden, whose topline numbers have mostly been steady.

In fact, Biden’s numbers haven’t declined at all since President Trump’s phone call with Ukraine became the dominant political story. We can see this by taking a before and after comparison of polls that have come out in the past couple of weeks.

Sanders: Elizabeth Warren is a capitalist to her bones. I'm not

ABC News, October 12, 2019

Bernie Sanders draws contrast with Elizabeth Warren: 'She is a capitalist through her bones. I'm not.'

With Sen. Elizabeth Warren continuing to climb in Democratic presidential primary polls, in part, at the expense of his own campaign, Sen. Bernie Sanders, in an interview on Saturday with ABC News' "This Week," explicitly highlighted a key difference in their core economic philosophies.

(snip) Sanders pushed back at the idea that he and Warren hold "identical positions," and added, of the notion that voters would prefer the similarly liberal Warren given she is younger and free of health concerns, that he is the sole candidate willing to take on the nation's "ruling class."

"I am, I believe, the only candidate who's going to say to the ruling class of this country, the corporate elite: Enough. Enough with your greed and with your corruption," Sanders said. "We need real change in this country."

Sanders noted that he and Warren have been friends "for some 25 years," and he thinks "she is a very, very good senator," but again contrasted their different economic beliefs.

"Elizabeth considers herself -- if I got the quote correctly -- to be a capitalist to her bones," he said. "I don't."

So Harris & Warren are Cougars who wear out young, fit men.

Given the allegations are not serious, how is this meme supposed to damage them? Am I missing something here?

Russian Man Sues Apple Claiming An iPhone App Turned Him Gay

Man Sues Apple Claiming An iPhone App Turned Him Gay

A Russian man is seeking one million rubles ($15,000) in compensation after an app he downloaded to his iPhone apparently turned him into a homosexual.

According to media reports, Sapizhat Gusnieva mistakenly downloaded the crypto-currency app called “GayCoin” when he apparently meant to download the all-the-more heterosexual app Bitcoin.

After mistakenly downloading the app, Gusnieva alleges, via court documents, it came with the instructions “Don’t judge until you try”.

In his affidavit, the victim reveals: “I thought, in truth, how can I judge something without trying? I decided to try same-sex relationships.

“Now I have a boyfriend and I do not know how to explain this to my parents.”

Rich McDaniel, Warren Campaign National Organizing Director, resigns

Resignation follows multiple complaints of inappropriate behavior

Warren campaign fires senior staffer for 'inappropriate behavior'

Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign has fired its national organizing director, Rich McDaniel, after an investigation into allegations of what it called “inappropriate behavior.”

“Over the past two weeks, senior campaign leadership received multiple complaints regarding inappropriate behavior by Rich McDaniel,” campaign spokesperson Kristen Orthman said in a statement after an inquiry from POLITICO Friday morning. “Over the same time period, the campaign retained outside counsel to conduct an investigation. Based on the results of the investigation, the campaign determined that his reported conduct was inconsistent with its values and that he could not be a part of the campaign moving forward.”

A person familiar with the investigation said that there were no reports of sexual assault, but could not comment further due to confidentiality. The investigation was conducted by attorney Kate Kimpel and her firm KK Advising, according to the person.

In a statement, McDaniel said, "I have separated from the campaign and am no longer serving as National Organizing Director. I have tremendous respect for my colleagues despite any disagreements we may have had and believe departing at this time is in the best interest of both parties.

"I would never intentionally engage in any behavior inconsistent with the campaign or my own values. If others feel that I have, I understand it is important to listen even when you disagree. I wish the campaign and my colleagues well."
