A Fox News reporter was drowned out during live coverage of the U.S. women’s soccer team’s World Cup win when a rowdy bar crowd in France began shouting “fuck Trump.”

“History has just been made,” senior foreign affairs correspondent Greg Palkot said from a pub in Lyon, the tournament’s host city, shortly after the U.S. victory.

Behind him, a group of spectators who appeared to be mainly Americans began hollering the chant making clear their disdain for President Donald Trump. Palkot paused as he realized the celebrants were delivering a political message. Still, he maintained composure and carried on with his coverage.

Investors worried after fire burns ex-felon's Henderson house

The $1.2 million-Henderson home of former felon John Thomas burned to the ground last month in a blaze that the Henderson Fire Department said was caused by an electrical malfunction. There were no injuries.

From that home, Thomas operated his betting business, which he claimed was generating millions of dollars in profit for clients. However, client emails viewed by the Review-Journal indicate at least a dozen claimed they were not paid.

Now some of them worry what the fire will mean to their chances of recovering their winnings, their lawyer said.

“They know what has happened in the past,” said Las Vegas attorney Matthew Callister, referencing a 2015 lawsuit against Thomas by a client who claimed he was owed $1 million, including principal and profit.

Thomas told a Nevada District Court he couldn’t pay the client because sports betting tickets worth millions of dollars were lost when an employee drowned during a short trip to Nicaragua earlier that year.

Thomas did not answer his phone or respond to emails. His lawyer, Crane Pomerantz, declined to comment.

Hikers Call Cops After Mistaking Traffic Sounds For Wild Pig Chasing Them

Hikers Call Cops After Mistaking Traffic Sounds For Wild Pig Chasing Them
What one woman described as a growling pig turned out to just be cars driving over a rumble strip on a nearby road.

Two lost hikers were left feeling a little sheepish after calling for help over what they thought was an aggressive “wild pig” chasing them down.

In reality, the sound that the pair mistook for vicious grunting and snorting was actually nearby cars going over a rumble strip on the road, according to a news release this week from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

According to the department, a woman called 911 from inside Government Canyon State Park around 11:30 p.m. on June 21, saying that she had climbed a tree to get away from an animal that had been growling and following her. She was ultimately put in touch with a park police officer, and “urged him to please hurry because an animal she believed to be a wild pig was nearby and growling.”

The officer initially had trouble finding her, but managed to get to her location after she sent him her location via a text message on her iPhone. Once there, the officer found that she was in the tree with another person, but there was no sign of any wild pig. However, the officer did hear a car drive over a nearby rumble strip, and asked the hikers if that was the sound they were talking about. It was.

“Embarrassed by the misperceived threat, the lost hikers were reassured by the officer that the unknown can be scary and their reaction surprisingly common,” the release states.

new Mississippi law is forbidding grocery stores from calling veggie burgers "veggie burgers",

Mississippi is forbidding grocery stores from calling veggie burgers “veggie burgers”
Proponents of the law say it’s necessary to avoid confusing consumers. That...doesn’t sound right.

This week, a new law went into effect in Mississippi. The state now bans plant-based meat providers from using labels like “veggie burger” or “vegan hot dog” on their products. Such labels are potentially punishable with jail time. Words like “burger” and “hot dog” would be permitted only for products from slaughtered livestock. Proponents claim the law is necessary to avoid confusing consumers — but given that the phrase “veggie burger” hasn’t been especially confusing for consumers this whole time, it certainly seems more like an effort to keep alternatives to meat away from shoppers.

“The plant-based meat alternative category is on fire right now, with consumers demanding healthier and more sustainable options,” Michele Simon, the executive director of the Plant-Based Foods Association, said in a statement. “This law, along with similar laws in several other states, is the meat lobby’s response.”

The makers of meat alternatives are suing. In a lawsuit filed on July 2, they argue that since their products are already labeled “vegan,” no consumers are confused. If anything, the requirement that they avoid product descriptions like “veggie burger” makes things more confusing.

Repub Gov to cut 41% of Alaska University System Budget, brain drain and closed campuses expected

Alaska fears 'brain drain' after 41 percent proposed cut to university system
The cuts could close campuses, shut down departments, and force 1,300 layoffs. "We may not even be able to mow the lawns," one administrator said.

Greg Knight has lived in Alaska his entire life.

It’s where he went to school, raised his family, and planned to retire. But after Gov. Mike Dunleavy's recent veto of the state budget, which cut $130 million of state funding for the University of Alaska system, Knight said he might have to leave his beloved state.

When he heard the news, he started packing up the home he’s owned in Anchorage for 20 years.

“It’s heartbreaking,” he said, but equivalent jobs just don’t exist in the state. “If this goes through, I could find myself unemployed in a matter of 60 days.”

Knight, 53, is a fiscal manager at the University of Alaska Anchorage, a job he doesn’t think will be around if the veto stays. “I’ll have to leave Alaska,” he said.

If Dunleavy has his way, the university says it will have to eliminate 1,300 jobs, close entire campuses, lay off tenured faculty, and shutter academic programs. "We may not even be able to mow the lawns," university Chancellor Cathy Sandeen told NBC News.

Lawmakers and university administrators knew the state would cut $5 million from the budget, which seemed manageable and foreseeable considering Alaska has reduced its financial support of its university system four out of the past five years. But the extra $130 million added on by the Republican governor’s veto, totaling a 41 percent cut in the state funding, blindsided the university.

The state Legislature has until July 12 to overturn the veto, but it needs support from three-fourths of the legislators. State political experts say it will be an uphill battle, and they will need to whip votes fast — right now it hinges on about six undecided Republicans.

Chris Cline, the billionaire mining entrepreneur and coal tycoon and benefactor to southern West Virginia, and a reported six others died in a helicopter crash early Thursday in the waters off the coast of the Bahamas, friends of Cline reported to The Register-Herald on Thursday afternoon.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice confirmed reports of Cline's death Thursday evening in a tweet. Nassau authorities confirmed that a submerged helicopter with seven aboard had been found near Walker's Cay. Bahamas police verified late Thursday that seven Americans — four women and three men — had died but did not identify the victims.

Friends of Cline's had reported that one of Cline's daughters was among the victims, along with two young adults from Beckley, unidentified friends and an unidentified helicopter mechanic from Florida.

The helicopter was en route to Fort Lauderdale from the Bahamas due to a possible illness of someone on board, when it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, Cline's friends in Beckley reported.
