The plot to stop Brexit

?itok=SAfR_92Q

After the shock of the referendum result, Remain MPs have regrouped. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on EU Relations, founded by Umunna in July and co-chaired by Soubry, is the main vehicle for their activities. Amendments to the government’s EU Withdrawal Bill have been meticulously co-ordinated to ensure maximum impact (the MPs use a WhatsApp group and often meet in Umunna’s office).

Remainers boast the media savvy of Umunna, the lawyerly expertise of Dominic Grieve (a former attorney general), the economic nous of Nicky Morgan (the Treasury select committee chair) and the rhetorical firepower of Soubry. Though most state that they are merely opposed to “hard Brexit” (defined as UK withdrawal from the EU single market and the customs union), they are alive to the possibility of halting Brexit altogether.

Beyond Westminster, some of Britain’s most senior politicians have opened back channels to Brussels. On 30 October, to the consternation of Brexiteers, Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief negotiator, met Nick Clegg, the former Labour cabinet minister Andrew Adonis and the veteran Tory backbencher Ken Clarke. During their Brussels meeting, Clegg impressed upon Barnier how “extraordinarily fragile and febrile” British politics was. Barnier, who had met with Jeremy Corbyn for 80 minutes earlier in the month, is mindful that the Conservative government could collapse. Out of chaos, the EU hopes, order may yet emerge. “What was clear from my meetings in Brussels is that they desperately want us to stay,” Adonis told me. “I didn’t meet a single person who thought that the EU would be better off without us.”

I hope they pull it off but I won't hold my breath. They are fighting an ideological war with a bunch of righties who are fervent beyond measure.

The Flat Earthers had their international conference yesterday and it was jaw-dropping

Flat Earthers from across the globe assembled in North Carolina last week and it was just as bizarre as you think.

The first Flat Earth Internation Conference, which drew hundreds and cost $149 per head to attend, didn't really achieve much.

The gathering aimed to reveal "the true evidence which shockingly points to our existence on a flat, stationary plane" and "debunk pseudo-scientific 'facts'" with sessions including:

Nasa and other Space Lies;
Flat Earth with the Scientific Method;
Waking Up to Mainstream Science Lies.
Mark Sargent, who has over 40,000 subscribers on his Flat Earth YouTube channel and attended the conference, told BBC News:

Nobody likes this uncomfortable feeling to be in this tiny ball, flying through space in this cast end of the universe.

Christian GOP lawmaker who pushed natural marriage resigns after same-sex tryst at Ohio office

A Christian “family values” Republican lawmaker has stepped down from his post in Ohio’s state House over revelations that he engaged in “inappropriate conduct” with another man at his legislative office, said The Columbus Dispatch on Thursday.

Wes Goodman, 33, a married former aide to U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), submitted a two-sentence resignation letter to the state Republican Party on Wednesday after a meeting with state House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger (R).

“I was alerted to details yesterday afternoon regarding his involvement in inappropriate behavior related to his state office,” said Rosenberger in a statement on Wednesday. “I met with him later in the day where he acknowledged and confirmed the allegations. It became clear that his resignation was the most appropriate course of action for him, his family, the constituents of the 87th House District and this institution.”

GOP thy name is hypocrisy. Self hating 101.

Ivanka Trump: Theres A Special Place In Hell For People Who Prey On Children

Source: Talking Points Memo

White House adviser and President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, was quoted Wednesday as saying she believed the women accusing Roy Moore of pursuing relationships, including sexual ones, with them as teenagers.

“There’s a special place in hell for people who prey on children,” she told the Associated Press. “I’ve yet to see a valid explanation and I have no reason to doubt the victims’ accounts.”

The Washington Post reported last Thursday on four women who accused Moore, on the record, of pursuing relationships with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. One woman, Leigh Corfman, said Moore tried to initiate sexual contact with her when she was 14.

On Monday, Beverly Young Nelson accused Moore of attempting to rape her when she was 16 years old. At a press conference, she showed what appeared to be Moore’s signature in her high school yearbook. “Love, Roy Moore D.A.,” he apparently wrote. Moore later claimed not to know Nelson. Moore has denied the allegations against him.

Oh the irony!

Just think what we have been witness too..and there is some good shit.

It is so easy now to be angry or full of despair. However, I think sometimes it behoves us to look left, look right and marvel at how far we have travelled. Things are hard for many right now but I was thinking about what I have been witness to since I first arrived on the planet and how much we have progressed in a (relatively) short period of history. For me:

The first female Prime Minister.

At school I was taught touch typing, not a computer in sight.

At uni only one chap had a mobile phone which was as big as a house and needed a battery that filled much of the boot of his car.

DNA (how cool is that?)

The Berlin Wall fell

Apartheid ended.

Getting cash out of the wall rather than having to go into the bank. Immediate financial transactions.

Puters at work.

Email (sometimes I miss letters!)

The internet.

The Northern Ireland Peace Process.

The smart phone.

Broadband. On demand everything! Internet shopping! (Shoes, yum)

GPS – we never have to get lost again. Unless the GPS gets confused and sends us the wrong way down a one-way street. Remember the Atlas on the back ledge of the car?

Digital photography!

First black President.

HIV is manageable rather than a death sentence. We all remember how bad that was, right?

Gay marriage.

The first openly gay cabinet minister.

The second female Prime Minister.

Social networking. Although that could be described as the good (DU), the bad (facebook) and the ugly (twitter).

For all the never-ending shit at the moment; Brexit, Trump, Terrorism, Populism and despair, our time is an amazing time. We have lived through a huge shift in technological advance and an advancement in equality that will be talked about long after we are all dust. Next important priority – we must not let the bastards take us backwards.

What have I missed? Not the shit please. The good stuff. And that includes the stuff I was not born in time for but has impacted on who we are today. I am thinking civil rights, space travel, the introduction of the contraceptive pill, etc etc.

The news cycle right now would bring anybody down. Let's celebrate our generation of genius for a moment.

If they STILL support Trump I think we can agree that..

…..based on the mounting evidence of the unsuitability of Trump to lead the free world, one must conclude that those who are choosing to wilfully ignore, or too cheer on, his behaviour, have at least one prejudice that is being reinforced by the bigot that is Trump. And that prejudice is being fortified to such an extent they were not only willing to vote for a man who, on all the evidence, has absolutely none of the skills and attributes needed to be Commander in Chief, but continue to actively cheerlead his behaviour and his utter lack of competence.

One, if being kind, may attribute a Trump vote to desperation, fear, ignorance, stupidity or anger. However, one can no longer be kind to those who continue to support Trump, for they are almost definitely going to be one (or more) of the following:

A misogynist. Would someone who believes in gender equality ever truly be able to continue to support someone who is demonstrably sexist and sees women as possessions? Who dismisses sexual harassment in the work place? Make America Grope Again.

Not all Trump supporters are misogynists. But pretty much all misogynists are Trump supporters.

A racist. Would someone who believes in race equality and strives to bring about a fairer society for minority communities ever truly be able to support a man who accepts the panders to the white supremacist crowd, creates false equivalency when white terrorist Nazi’s march and kill, and is still a birther for crying out loud. Make America Great White Again.

Not all Trump supporters are racists. But pretty much all racists are Trump supporters.

Angry, white and fearful. Would someone who had the ability to navigate their way through the noise and hype ever be able to take this man seriously? His lack of single a coherent thought is not registering with a certain subset of the white community because they are angry and scared, and they are not going to take it anymore.... dammit.

Not all Trump supporters are angry, white and fearful. But pretty much all those who are white and are excelling in emotional thinking right now because of anger and fear are Trump supporters.

Has disdain for the constitution. Cheering stopping Muslims entering the country? Cheering transphobic bathroom laws? Excusing collusion and treachery? Cheering the attempted army trans ban?

Not all Trump supporters have disdain for the constitution. But pretty much all those who do are Trump supporters.

Now, I could go on; islamaphobe, isolationist, xenophobic, homophobe.......... Not all Trump supporters are these things but pretty much all who are those things are Trump supporters.

Not all Trump supporters are all of the above, but pretty much all are at least one of the above. Shutting out all reason and the safety and security of not only America but the whole damned world, just because a racist bigot has given them permission to enjoy and feel secure in their prejudices.

Just sayin’

The Church of England wants to stop transphobic bullying and people are angry

New guidance from the Church of England has caused controversy for its inclusive stance on transgender and non-binary children.
The guidance entitled “Valuing all God’s children” is an update to the Church of England’s earlier work on tackling homophobic bullying.
The guidelines were given to the 4,700 schools overseen by the Church.
The update includes advice on combatting transphobic bullying and advice to teachers on allowing children to express themselves, particularly through dress-up and play.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said in the update: “All bullying, including homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying causes profound damage.
“We must avoid, at all costs, diminishing the dignity of any individual to a stereotype or a problem.”

Jeff Sessions Knows There Are Definitely Black Terror Groups but Can't Seem to Remember Any White On

es

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was on Capitol Hill Tuesday, spending his day being alternately fluffed and grilled by the House Judiciary Committee’s Republican and Democratic members, respectively.

During his testimony, Congresswoman Karen Bass, a California Democrat, pressed Sessions about a recent FBI report that described “Black Identity Extremists” as a possible terrorist threat to the United States and domestic law enforcement agencies.

Ignore, for the moment, that the term “Black Identity Extremists” seems to have been invented by the FBI for that report, along with the fact that the FBI itself has a well-documented proclivity for fomenting discord in black communities. Instead, spend a minute with Sessions’ response to Bass when she asked if he could think of any equivalent white movements.

Australians Vote 'Overwhelmingly' in Favor of Same-Sex Marriage

As you may be aware, Australia has, for the last two months, been debating and conducting a national postal survey to determine whether its citizens would like to legalize same-sex marriage. As it turns out, Australians are “overwhelmingly” in favor of the measure.

On Tuesday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics unveiled the results, which show that 61 percent of the population voted to allow same-sex marriage, while 38 percent voted against it, CNN reports. 12.7 million Australians participated in the government’s survey, which accounts for 79.5 percent of voting-age Australians, according to The New York Times.

The survey is non-binding but will hopefully clear the way for Australia’s Parliament to legalize same-sex unions in the very near future.
