America's left/right swing cycle is very destructive.

I feel many of your ten points are true short term, but I'm prone to be long-term negative because of human short-sightedness and complacency.

Unfortunately for us, Republican's cyclic "two Santa Clauses" tactic is still working for them in the long term. It does, however feel good that we're about to go into the "positive" side of that cycle.

Until the massive problem of global inequality is resolved, I fear the trends toward nationalism, protectionism, racism and worsening poverty and deadly conflict will continue.

I don't see much now to stop the process unless we experience a global cataclysmic event such as another Great Depression. Climate change will eventually do the job, although millions will die in the process. The world is very poorly prepared for it and still in denial, much like Indonesia has been for tsunami.

However, let's hope 2019 proves to make all of your points hold true for the sake of world-wide emotional relief.....

Facebook sued by top prosecutor over Cambridge Analytica

Source: BBC

District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine filed the lawsuit on Wednesday, said the Washington Post. It accused Facebook of allowing the wholesale scraping of personal data on tens of millions of users.

The action adds to a number of regulatory investigations, following a year of privacy and security missteps.

A Facebook spokesperson told the BBC: "We're reviewing the complaint and look forward to continuing our discussions with attorneys general in DC and elsewhere."

I personally hope Facebook is forced to downsize and return to it's original roots.

The choices on my ballot today are between....

Public servants......

or

Corporate servants......

Most are money-driven in my experience and....

are prone to be somewhat selfish, self-centered, authoritarian, and tribal in nature. There never seems to enough money and power to satisfy many of them, and it's contagious.

Some of those characteristics didn't shine until I knew them for a while and the extroverts among them can be a pain in the ass.

One of the most predominant characteristics researchers found among right-leaning citizenry was the deeply ingrained need for a rigid authoritarian power structure in their lives from bottom to the top.....from parents to clergy to company officers to politicians, and finally to a god-figure.

I believe psychologist have confirmed most of that in studies........

I feel we need a concerted multi-pronged attack until 2020....and beyond.

1. Republican lies must be called out and in simple terms. They have lied to us for decades and that corruption is destroying the moral fiber of America. Let's do this:

TV spot in big bold black and white letters: TRUMP LIED TO YOU.
Then, in simple terms explain the lie and its implications.

If we can afford it, do the same for state and federal legislators.

2. State our policy positions in simple straight-forward terms in TV and newspaper ads and billboards across the nation, and perhaps on social media.

Republicans have used this approach for a long time, except they use dozens of pathways to spread their dogma, from the NRA and churches, to underground far right-wing extremist web sites, to having their own cable channel and hundreds of talk radio outlets.

Surely we can design an effective media means to begin the reversing of decades of right-wing brainwashing.

This must be a continuous, well-executed, concerted effort until the nation is turned around, not just near election time.

An inspirational comment from...

Ramona Holloway @RamonaHolloway
Co-host of the Matt and Ramona Show on 107.9 the Link, WLNK. TV Commentator, Speaker and author of Jesus Take the Fork

I though rather than posting something snarky about this event, it might be better to find something positive. While searching NC sources for more about Ms. Westwood, I ran across this beautiful message:

Hope everyone can see the Twitter video. I couldn't find it on YouTube as a second source.

Great article, thanks! Also see Prof. Tribe's comments.....

Love this first paragraph.....

(snip)
ďIt is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties,Ē James Madison wrote in 1785. President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday that he plans to move from experimentation on liberty into widespread application of the tyrantís playbook.

Thank you James Madison, and I'm delighted there's a deluge of legal experts like Prof. Epps and Prof. Lawrence Tribe speaking their mind very quickly to put the orange clown in his place, :

https://twitter.com/tribelaw/status/1057445336963338240
Laurence Tribe @tribelaw: Itís an understatement to say thereís a consensus among experts that Trumpís promise to end birthright citizenship for babies born in the USA to undocumented mothers is a legally untenable political stunt. No respected currently active scholar disagrees.

Article: I Voted for Republicans, Until They Voted Against My Son

I Voted for Republicans, Until They Voted Against My Son
By Tasha Nelson

Link: https://www.thecut.com/2018/10/republicans-dont-protect-preexisting-conditions.html

(snip)
I used to be a swing voter who leaned Republican. But now that the Republican Party has reduced rare disease tax credits, is not protecting people with preexisting conditions, and moved (in my opinion) far too quickly on a decision about a lifetime Supreme Court Justice who could determine the future of health care in this country, the GOP has single-handedly forced me to move steadily and solidly to the left. President Trump has said and tweeted repeatedly that Republicans will protect preexisting conditions. The truth is if the Republican Party werenít so effectively passing legislation dismantling the solid protections already in place, I wouldnít need to write this article. The only reason we are in a position to worry about protection at all is the Republican Party slowly and steadily attacking the existing protective pieces of the ACA by voting to remove them.

Great article. I hope everyone can read this, as it's a good review of the Repug bullshit healthcare legislation in Congress.

This bill is a smokescreen designed to make people think the GOP has an interest in protecting preexisting conditions, while in reality it firmly and solidly returns us to the the days where insurance companies could freely discriminate for profit.

The Blue Wave of reality..............

My email to Land O'Lakes today.

After reading about several corporations financially supporting King, I got pissed. I'm physically unable to do many things to help the GOTV efforts in this election and typically can only contribute funds to a few candidates. However, I can raise some hell by email or letter to those I believe are working to slowly corrode away our democracy and social decency. That also helps me psychologically to vent my frustrations.

This is one I sent today.......

Subject: Regarding your support of Rep. Steve King
To: governmentrelations@landolakes.com

My extended family and friends will no longer be purchasing your excellent products due to your financial support of Rep. Steve King of Iowa. Unfortunately, we have no other way to leverage our disgust toward his horrible statements relating to race, poverty and migration.

The very moral and emotional fiber of America is currently being damaged every day by hate-filled racist rhetoric from a number of white nationalist, xenophobic politicians as well as extensive right-wing media. These people are the epitome of hypocrisy regarding immigrants and refugees because many of them and their supporting corporations use migrant labor that is kept under cover. The farming family of Rep. Devin Nunes is a great example.

Many American corporations like yours, AT&T and others are lending financial support to those elected officials. Many are also advertising regularly on extremist media outlets. We feel it is well past time that corporations like Land O'Lakes look beyond how a politician's beliefs affect their bottom line and look as well at how their social attitudes demean the very heart of our Constitution, laws, norms and moral values.

On your internet home page, you say: "Letís work together. We're committed to making our world a better place." Please return to being true to that statement and re-evaluate the politicians and political organizations you support.

Kindest regards,
(me)
(my home city)

I tried to keep this focused and not get side-tracked with a rant on Trump, which was difficult. Any feedback appreciated - positive or negative!......

Oh noes, don't waste the Vlasics!

The DNC says save them for our party on the day Faux News goes off the air........

Repugs believe from Infowars that thousands of taco trucks are hidden in-waiting in Soros' basement in New York, loaded with your pickle jar mortars as well as pickled red sausage cannons. They also believe that after the battle, they will be tortured by being forced to watch their enemy drink all the beer.

I'm waiting for someone to locate a progressive's van down by the river that's plastered with anti-Trump stickers. It'll be all day coverage on Faux with helicopters and Hannity at the scene.
