Are You Feeling Dreamers' Terror Too?

Would really appreciate hearing from you all.

Maybe I'm too empathetic, but I am literally experiencing increased blood pressure and anxiety symptoms.

I can't help putting myself in the shoes of a mother or father worrying 24/7 about being ripped from their life, their homes, their children, their friends, their entire self-identity and treated like a criminal whisked away in an ICE van to a jail-like facility with the sounds of my wailing spouse and children fading in the distance.

I can imagine the explosion of repulsion and anger towards ICE employees/parents willing to do this to me and my family as I exit a plane in another country.

Good grief we invited Dreamers to come out of the shaddows and register. Promises were made.

I will be honest. My reaction to that invitation was "Holy crap, the Feds will know where they and their families live, it could be a trap."




Can you imagine the pain and anxiety Dreamers and their families are enduring this month?

But you and I won't be scooped up like poop and tossed across our border like a sack of trash.

Not today. We are US citizens.




But what is there to guarantee it won't happen in the future when ICE runs out of immigrants?

Perhaps I or my offspring will be targeted like Chinese relatives and friends of the "outspoken" are today. Perhaps my great-grandchild will have to toil at menial labor as punishment because I was an outspoken empathizer.

The sins of parents have been visited on their progeny in the past, and are today in China.

Obama included language in his DACA plan to ban information sharing with ICE.

The courts wouldn't allow Dreamers' parents to be included and GOP members refused to do so.

ICE NOW HAS THE NAMES AND ADDRESSES of 3.6 million parents of Dreamers, They are sitting ducks.

And the hideously named Freedom Caucus and most of the House will block any bill that gives amnesty to these millions of law abiding, hard working families. A Senate debate and bill is silly, only providing cover for GOP Senators imo.

“This was something the DOJ said, in an Office of Legal Counsel memo in 2014, that we could not do through executive action,” said Eric Columbus, the former special counsel to the general counsel at the Department of Homeland Security under President Obama. “We concluded it was something Congress would have to address because adjusting their status would exceed the executive branch’s powers.”

But Congress was unable to address it then, and, so far, appears unable to address it now. As Dreamers face the potential loss of their own legal protections, they have expressed concern that the information they handed over to the government to qualify for the program back in 2012 could be used to target their parents for deportation.

“That is a legitimate fear,” Columbus acknowledged. “It depends on whether the information is still current, and whether they live with their parents. We had language under the Obama administration to prevent information sharing between the benefits side and the enforcement side, to stop UCSIS from sharing that information with ICE. But in September they watered that down a bit so they could do that if they wanted to.”

This surprised me, quite frankly. I guessed former Police Academy or military training to be sufficient.

Well, coupled with a college degree for most young grads are student loans. ICE is probably a less dangerous Option than police and military duty.
