About Me

I'm not a new member, I was actually a member for several years during George W's administration as well.

I think the conservative "think tanks" are a danger to our democracy.

I have posted about this issue before because I think it’s really important. I don’t know a lot about the think tanks, but they have been around for a long time and there are a lot of them. They seem to be created by and run by entities with a lot of money to spend. And they seem to be taking a long-term approach to slowly destroying our democracy. They seem to have a plan in place to concentrate the media to more easily control the content, to distort the Republican message to make it more palatable to the masses (note how Republicans are always “on message” and all have the same talking points), to alter the landscape of the system of justice (with candidates pre-vetted by conservative groups and ready to be appointed when there’s an opening), to sponsor and pass legislation to benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor and working class, etc.

I think conservatives have been working to rig the system in their favor for a long time (at least since Reagan), and the Democrats are way behind. I don’t know how we can catch up to them to stop their agenda. Any thoughts on this?

Anybody watching Trump now?

In fine form, talking about fake news, Obama, immigration, how great his tax cuts are.

Now a woman next to him speaking, “Mr. President, it’s an honor to be here with you” ...she and husband have $200-300 more dollars in each paycheck due to new tax cuts.

Her husband verbalizing how great things are for him economically since tax cuts. The audience following orders and clapping on cue.

Other people speaking about how great Trump and tax cuts are. Garbage...

So I talked to my Fox-watching, Trump-loving sister yesterday.

We try not to talk about politics, because we end up fighting. But yesterday I said something that triggered a “discussion”.

She asked me if I’m part of the “Me Too” movement; I didn’t know why she asked that. She said the “Me Too” movement is anti-male, with the goal of bashing and hating men and boys. She has a teenage son and doesn’t want anything to do with a liberal movement whose goal is to hurt and hate males. I explained that “Me Too” is about fighting against sexual harassment, not hating men and boys.

This is how Fox News and right wing talk radio distorts things. They have turned the “Me Too” issue into a male bashing movement. It breaks my heart that my sister has been brainwashed into believing the crap she hears on Fox.

I have been wondering about the right wing think tanks.

I googled “right wing think tank”. There are a lot of these things that promote right wing ideology. There are twice as many think tanks that lean right versus those that lean left. Some deal with specific issues, such as a religion or private schools.

So it seems there are a lot of conservatives working full-time to think of ways to promote the wealthy Repubs at the expense of the rest of the country. I wonder if any of the think tanks deal with Russia and how it can assist some politicians during elections.

Working for a (right wing) think tank seems like a strange way to make a living. The employee doesn’t actually make anything or provide a service except to think of ways to screw over a lot of other people.

I havent heard about Mitch McConnell lately.

Mitch is my least favorite politician, and I think he has done more to undermine our country’s political system than anyone else. I’m hoping he’s caught up in the Russia scandal, because I think he’s guilty. He would do anything to keep Republicans in power.
He has been so quiet, anyone know what he’s up to? He is a person we need to keep tabs on.

There is a double standard on DU.

I thought that posters aren't allowed to denigrate Bernie Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats and, as a Democratic Socialist, is considered one of us. But time and time again, I see insulting comments about Bernie. If Hillary is beyond reproach on DU, Bernie should be too.

I'm glad Mueller and his team are working hard behind the scene.

We need him to expose the corruption more than ever.
Putin is very happy with what he has unleashed in the USA.

Remember when Trump said he wanted term limits?

Haven't heard a peep out of him about it since the election. Of course, it's to his advantage not to have term limits. It forces Repubs to vote for his crappy agenda, because if they don't, they're out the next election.
Imagine if McConnell and Ryan would be forced out because their time was up. Of course some good Democrats would have to go as well. But a more independent Senate and House could only benefit the American people. Or maybe the opposite?

Stupid or nefarious?

Rachel asked if Trump et al are stupid or nefarious. She gave several instances of their erroneous statements, one of which was recently telling us an airline carrier was making its way to North Korea. She said she wishes there was a third option to explain all their mistakes, as having an administration that's either stupid or nefarious doesn't bode well for our country.
