this album can be the instrument to mend a broken heart, or to straighten out your life ... A MUST!

through the sincere Testimony
in the songs
of The Revelaires

From Don Dixon, producer:
We were working on the vocal for “7 Chinese Brothers,” but Michael just wasn’t into it. He was down in his stairwell. I hit the talk-back to let him know I was coming through to make an adjustment… This was just an excuse to take a look at him, see if I could loosen him up a little.

While I was in the attic, I’d noticed a stack of old records that had been taken up there to die, local R&B and gospel stuff mostly. I grabbed the one off the top (a gospel record entitled The Joy of Knowing Jesus by the Revelaires) and as I passed Michael on the way to the Control Room, I tossed it down to him. I thought he might be amused.

When I fired up the tape a few seconds later, Michael was singing, but not the lyrics to “7 Chinese Brothers.” He was singing the liner notes to the LP I’d tossed him. When Michael began to sing these liner notes, he was much louder than he’d been earlier and it took a few seconds for me to realize what was going on and adjust the levels.

He made it all the way through the song, working in every word on the back of that album! I rewound the tape, we had a chuckle and proceeded to sing the beautiful one-take vocal of the real words that you hear on Reckoning. He seemed more confident after that day.

I feel like this is only the 2nd time in the last year or so.

It's also only 80F out.

I feel like it'll be over in like 5 minutes, so I'm going to go stand in it.

Edit: Damn, actually feels like only about 72 or so. GLORIOUS!

I went out in shorts and tank-top and soaked some of it in while the getting was good!!!

the goddess phoebe bridgers with an early track that just crushes all (live in studio-2016)

Well, I am tired of being sad.
I feel it when I wake up,
And it just stays bad...

Hits me like a sickness,
Or a steamroller...
And it makes me wanna lay down,
And get run over...

But then I see you,
Always smiling,
Makes me wanna touch you,
And keep from dying...

You're a brother to me,
You're my partner in crime,
You're the feeling I get,
When I'm feeling fine,
And a part of me wants you,
But most of me needs you,
So I won't fall unless you ask me to...

We talked for hours,
Until finally,
Sleep takes over,
The amphetamine...

And in the darkness,
I feel your fingers;
They don't touch me,
But there's a danger...

You're a brother to me,
You're my partner in crime,
You're the feeling I get,
When I'm feeling fine,
And a part of me wants you,
But most of me needs you,
So I won't fall unless you ask me to...

damn I need a teacher & beauty in the broken american moment

Love me harder
Cry like a thunder
Kick the floorboards
Paint it a different color

Another year older
Debt slightly deeper
Paycheck smaller
Goddamn I need a teacher

Rock me Daddy, I'm still your kid
The ways to you are oh so very different
Beauty in the broken American moment

Rock me Daddy, happiness ain't free
I see where you're at, I know you can see me
Beauty in the broken American moment

Tell the truth dear
Don't be jaded
That's no way to play it
To say it, to feel it

Lord, make me thankful
Though it ain't easy
Give it away freely
It'll come back to you eventually

Raider Nation, baby ...

Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd, responded Wednesday to the backlash the Las Vegas Raiders received after tweeting, “I can breathe 4-20-21,” in response to the guilty verdicts of former Minneapolis police office Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.

"On behalf of our family, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Las Vegas Raiders organization and its leadership for their support of our family and for our nation's ongoing pursuit of justice and equality for all," Floyd said in a statement shared by the law firm representing George Floyd's family.

the difference between when we were young, and nowadays ...

Had a nice encounter with a young transgender worker at the local make-your-own pizza place ...

It was really busy and there was only 3 people working apparently ... and this young lady was flustered and apologizing to me about the wait and just being generally sheepish. She was taking my money, cutting my pizza and putting the final after-cooking toppings on my pie.

Since we're all in masks, it took me a second to ascertain a preferred pronoun ... they're all just in jeans and a loose t-shirt ... but hers looked like women's cut jeans, she had earrings in both ears, and a wristband in rainbow colors ... so I was pretty sure I had right.

After one of the last apologies I was like 'You're all good girl!' ... hoping I wasn't mistaken.

She said "Thank you!" in a normal way, and then stopped and like looked straight at me, and quietly added "and thank you so much". I knew what that 2nd one was for.

This is a VERY red area, I can only imagine what it's like for her on a daily basis.

I walked out happy, hoping I'd made her day a little better

perfume genius - queen (studio-2014) 🌈 🌈 awesomeness ... maybe Elton is co-writer

because this tune is really like a ... let's say ... 'faithful tribute' to an Elton John tune?

Fortunately it's one of my all-time favorites ... Specifically Curtains, from Capt Fantastic & TBDC.
